Hi Ed: I missed these when you posted them. I've read that close-ups wide open are soft on the X100, and don't get critically sharp until f8, but these ones at f4 look awfully good to me.

And an unexpected bump in the cash flow allowed me to get a used X100 this week (sorry I missed yours), with a 21A0xxx seerial number, so hopefully the dreaded sticky shutter blades won't afflict me. I think I'm going to like this camera a lot once I have it in my hands.

I'm jealous. Did you ever read his "Last Day of a Condemned Man"? Wow!

The Place des Vosges, Victor Hugos' old place, had a huge fountain in the center, shops ringed the lower floors, DG walkways around the fountain and very green lawns which you are forbidden to step upon. I had an apartment across the street. I have not read the Last Day of a Condemned Man ... but now that it has been brought to my attention, I think I shall.

Larry- the macro capability of the X100 is really good---it is one of the things I do miss (as you know the X Pro 1 does not really get that close). I hadn't heard about the softness in macro mode, and my experience has been the opposite. Enjoy your new X100!

+1 for #1. I like the colours. But not the second, I hate the colours in the second one! Oranges look tasty though.

Thanks; didn't really control for the reds in the second one, which can get blotchy on Fujis for some reason. Nevertheless, it was the garish orange on red in bright sun that attracted me to make the image in the first place.

Reds are difficult on a lot of cameras. I've found them to also be problematic on Sony-based sensors but much less so on Canons.
