Sony High ISO comparison between RX100 and RX100M2.

I rarely go above ISO 3200 so performance like that is purely academic for me.
On the other hand I'm always using the base ISO and that's where I want to see an improvement when new models are introduced.
Not always the case these days.

The RX100 mk 1 high ISO already meets my needs.

My question is -- what's the low ISO like? First rumors is that the mkII is weaker, which would be a show stopper for me, sadly.

On an hour-long video Sony posted, a Sony tech person says that the benefits of the BSI are primarily at higher ISOs and if I recall correctly says that by ISO 400 they are basically equivalent in noise. He also suggests (and I would think he's right) that any speculation about WORSE performance (particularly image sharpness) in the Mk2 compared to the Mk1 are most likely based on poor sample quality (and based on pre-production cameras).

In my mind, the biggest distinctions of the Mk2 are (1) tilting screen for high- or low- angle shots, (2) ability to mount a viewfinder (but it's ~$450!), (3) wifi remote control possibilities and (4) ~1 stop higher ISO with equivalent noise. Whether those are worth an extra $100 plus the delta on whatever your compact camera is now if you resell or trade it is a personal choice.

I agree with these two and would also add detents to the ring around the lens, so you can more easily find the focal lengths. The sad part about that, though, is that a Sony rep on one of the YouTube videos said the lens will move to 4 FLs: 28, 35, 75, 100. I am a 50mm shooter. Not sure why that one is left out :(

I used to have a Ricoh GX100, which had a step zoom function, giving 24 28 35 50 70. I found this excellent, and kept it at 50 so that this was what came up when the camera was switched on. I have been hoping that step zoom would come to the RX100 (firmware upgrade would be nice), but I agree with you, for me too missing out 50 seems crazy

I know this is a complete U-turn on the thread, but I received a pre-ordered Mk2 today and since I still have my Mk1, did some base ISO thru 800 comparisons. Processing the raw files in LR5, I see no difference in sharpness at ISO 125/160 -> 800. That's based on a sample size of 1 each. :)

I got the mkii today, and detents DO include 50. So, it's 28, 35, 50, 75, 100. Very handy.
