Street Street photography (Image thread)

Spent this morning in Philly today, prowling Don's (and now Michael's) turf. Shot with the Nex and almost exclusively with the 16. Which continues to both please and plague me. I love the compositions it leads me to, but its a rare shot that the people are close enough to really feel. I want to nail this lens because I like wide angles, but I literally have to be right in someone's face to get any sort of human feel from it... Either that or crop heavily and take advantage of the Nex's large sensor... Lens aside, it was my first full session of street shooting with the Nex and I love that little camera as much as I thought for this kind of stuff. Even if the ISO only comes in full stops. :D

Here are a few shots. More at:

I borrowed this last one from Don. If he didn't do so many of this type of shot so sensitively and well, I never would have seen this guy...

Ray, I love the entire set and posted so at Flickr. Don't sweat the ISO full stop stuff... I'm not...:D

The camera is wonderful for the streets. I have to admit, I didn't want to fall in love but, it's a useless struggle not to...I surrender.
The 16 will be here tomorrow and I'll be on the streets downtown around 0800 Sat....

Great stuff Ray.....

Thanks Don. I wish you had been there and I had run into you - in additional to being good to see you, you probably would have known about the big labor rally near City Hall. I was all around City Hall all morning but I guess I was over at Reading Terminal by the time the rally started. I had no idea... I can't believe I was that close and missed it. I would have loved to have made it to that for a number of reasons, and photographing it would have certainly been high on the list...

Don, you made me look twice in some of the photos where the subjects looked transparent. Like the colour one as well the grain is just right on that one, you should do more colour!

Also like the two interpretations of the same structure with Ray. What is that thing?

Alf - That is a colour grader's dream, very nice colours that complement each other. That could work very well as a B&W too, I think.

Michael,

I've been going through your website since you introduced yourself and I'd seen some of these (I love the "tough decisions" shot) but a few I'd missed. That reflected shot of City Hall is quite amazing and just as I'm about to point out another one or two I realize how good all of them are. You have an incredible body of work - I'm glad you showed up here and are sharing it...
