Fuji Automagically - A few with the new X100s

Isoterica

Hall of Famer
Other than resizing these are out of camera, film choice was Velvia. They seem to... glow.

Automagically being Luke's word or at least where I heard it first.. It's a good word.

the problem with the X100 (and the S variant) is things are so automagically good that one can get lazy about composition. I reckon you won't have that problem, though......looking great. I just got home from the state fair.....I'm hot and sticky and I ate too much and I have a bunch of photos to view from the X100s. I assume they're good, but hopefully they're great.

Sometimes I think its newbie forgiveness.. everything seems magic and THEN you learn how to use the camera. I haven't figured out anything! Maybe I shouldn't read further into the book o_O And our air conditioning breaker popped.. not sure when but its hotter inside than out right now as if driving around in a hot car earlier wasn't sticky enough. Will like to see your fair photos.

Sometimes I see a scene and I think "oh man the X100 is going to turn this into something interesting." Which is different than thinking of the camera purely as a tool to capture what you already see.

I'm hoping to get out today as yesterday was too busy. Is that magic me.. is it the camera? I'll start with the settings I left off with and play along the way. Maybe I'll find out. Maybe I won't. Also I could have sworn I read somewhere that one could apply an effect or crop etc after the photo is shot? Anyone know? You can apply filters etc afterwards on the GR.

I just went out and shot some more with the Velvia sim, and these will be HDR. I never do HDR from JPG's but I wondered what HDR would look like if you did it from Velvia slides, lol. We'll see how they turn out. I'll post them in my industrial set later tonight if any turn out.

Thanks. I am still experimenting based on what I have to photograph. Also trying to slow it down and not shoot just everything in sight, to think about my shots. So far I am loving its dof capabilities and close up is obviously my favorite way to shoot. Some of John's grungy industrial shots are amazing and I want to explore that a bit, not on his scale of course, I don't have his job, but just the grit and rust of it all. The GR is a great little camera but it was sadly just there for me, partially due to my vision. The Fuji though delights me like I thought I wouldn't be excited again.. so between it and my new glasses on order I'll be good to go!

Sounds like you need another trip to Italy, posthaste! :D

Watch out! If the urbex bug bites, it bites HARD, lol.

I am fortunate to be working where I am, but the vast body of my work comes from other places. Most of it is based on "incursions" though so very often you are entering abandoned buildings without permission and will have to relay on forgiveness. Considering some of the "characters" that can be in those places, definitely not a place that is advisable for a woman alone -- just my opinion anyway. It's good to find a local bunch of explorers that can get you to places you might otherwise be unaware of and do "buddy system" when you go in. I'll go solo, but it's a better idea to go as a team.

Sadly, the places I'm photographing to test cameras at work (the old places like the robot shed) are scheduled to be demolished soon.

But I hope you find something to shoot and look forward to your future posts!

You're right Ray, I wish I had the Fuji in Italy. I actually looked at one there, it was so strange to see it available in Italy [just one camera mind you] but not at home. I'd never seen one in person but really, to be honest, all I saw was the box there. I did see an X100 though and realize then it wasn't as big as people said it was. In fact the size for me is a good fit. No camera purchase in Italy.. I got Italian shoes instead ;) Euro to USD would not have been favorable on my side not to mention the tax associated with purchases of that nature. Next on the list is likely Germany because my husband's company is there. His ticket their dime, mine via frequent flyer miles, it's how we do it.

I have said before John that your bravado is not a quality that I have in regard to urban exploration. However, I can find my own level of decay and corrosion, because I shoot primarily close up, nearly anywhere. I'd love to explore an old hospital or institution.. a prison [did that in Italy] and my comfort in cemeteries is well known.. but I will leave the manly-crazy-man stuff to you ;) Get more photos of the soon to be gone's, before they are! And BE CAREFUL!
