B&W Black & White, monotone and sepia

A really interesting image, Pavel - I like the way you've framed this scene...the way the water seems to bleed back into the reflection. The light lines coming down between and across the person's shadow on the right is very cool the way it catches one's eye and...leads. It's as though they're carrying a cane or weapon...at least that's the way I see it. Great abstraction - kind of like an ink blot image. Very nicely done. Tis the season of rain here, as well, right now.

excellent/ I would love to see it with a hair more contrast. Wonderful image

Very nice use of reflections Stratokaster.

Here are a few from yesterday. Shot with the GF1 and Olympus 17mm, in anticipation of the fixed field of view of the X-100...

A local apartment complex - the first obviously processed for intense contrast...

Ray, this first one feels more like some kind of prison or "institute" or hospital. The intensity certainly comes through - it almost seems to vibrate on my screen! In the second image, your interior's mood is so much more calming and peaceful. These two are my favorites from your four. Thanks for posting all, Ray.

A few more along the same lines as the shots above, a couple with VERY high contrast processing, an option I've been playing with in Silver Efex Pro v2. Wouldn't work at all for some shots, but seems to be the ONLY thing that works on others.

These are all with the gf1 and the 17 - trying to re-train my head to the X-100 field of view. I like it a lot, always have. Just have to see about the rest of the camera...

A touch of color - probably shouldn't be in this thread...

Ray, I saw these last night on Flickr... I didn't pick up on the use of subtle selective color within the grass in your third then, but I do like it very much. I need to figure out how to try that out. All are well done, the grittiness is great to have with the first two...and your last I like very much too. May I ask if that border on your last one was done within Silver Efex 2 or if you added it afterwards? Ever since I found out that the SFX2 borders take away from the image, I haven't used that option again.

Yeah, the borders are all from Silver Efex. They do take away from the image, but in all but that particular case, I made them very small so they take away very little - you can adjust pretty much everything about them to minimize the impact on the underlying image. Using Aperture, the SEP2 file I keep isn't the only version, so I still have the original and I only use those borders if the tiny bit of inadvertent 'cropping' doesn't hurt the image. Sometimes, if in doubt, I'll save the image without borders, then open it in SEP2 again and add them and then I have two versions that are identical but for the borders. But I haven't done that often to be honest.

Cool, Peter - I see you're coming over to the dark and noisy side. The treatment adds to the sense of speed and movement in that fist one - and makes me feel as though I'm watching a handheld Indie film, and I also really like the mystery in your second one. Interesting to see where that bridge's span is through your third. Thanks for these, Peter. I think that second image is very dreamlike. I'm off to bed now - perhaps I'll find out what's at the end of that road...

In a case like this it could be interesting to see the photos in two versions - with and without grain...but that would be for a separate thread, I think - more of a C&C type of thread.
