A couple additional notes:
- Shutter is loud but more noticeable inside the house, not bad outside.
- I didn't notice the shutter shock, all hand held. A few trials w/ Canon 70-300mm IS gave me sharp shots at 300mm at 1/15sec inside the house. I couldn't achieve that w/ Canon 55-250mm IS. Also Canon 18-55mm IS lens nearly covers the sensor at 24mm f/4.

I hadn't posted much here and I've been mainly shooting jpeg straight out of the camera but now that I have LR 5 I'm using RAW again and noting that Sony's ability to get the scene "right" is, well, pretty darn good - there's not much needed to do to the RAW files as far as I can tell yet.

I hadn't posted much here and I've been mainly shooting jpeg straight out of the camera but now that I have LR 5 I'm using RAW again and noting that Sony's ability to get the scene "right" is, well, pretty darn good - there's not much needed to do to the RAW files as far as I can tell yet.

Which setting is everyone using for the LCD screen vs VF? If I have it on auto, the screen is ALWAYS on when my eye isn't on the VF. It's a waste of battery power. But when I change the settings to VF-only, the LCD is ALWAYS off which means even on the odd occasion when I want to change some menu settings or do a bit of chimping, I am forced to do it through the VF or go through the menu (via the VF) and change it back to auto. It's incredibly annoying.

It's not like in other cameras where the screen functions independently from the VF, it's always off until I press either the menu or play button.

I leave the LCD on the information screen.

If you hit the "DISP" (upper jog wheel), it is the screen where there is only information, and no live view is provided. Although you do get a live histogram and the electronic level.

Without showing live view all the time, it'll conserve battery. Also put the camera on airplane mode to disable WIFI.
