News Two New Compacts From Olympus: Serious Enough?

My problem is that when I travel I want to take shots in the evening. Mu43 can do that fairly well. I may have to go wiht a fast prime on the E-Pm2, but I have a reasonable chance of getting good images.

I just picked up a refurbed Stylus 1 from Olympus because of the 20% off sale ($447!). I like that when the camera is powered down, the lens folds into the body nicely and I can fit the whole affair in one (not very large) jacket pocket. With the constant aperture f/2.8 lens, it's still fast enough for most applications while its 28-300mm zoom range means no need to change glass. And the viewfinder is built in. Finally, it doesn't have a micro four-thirds or one-inch sensor but, at 1/1.7, it's still larger than those 1/2.3 affairs. The Stylus 1 won't replace my other cameras but there are enough situations in my life when this will be the perfect solution. But this is pretty much as close as I get to a travel superzoom these days.

Let's hope Fuji's rumored X30 comes with a new and improved 2/3" sensor and a fast 24-200 mm high quality lens. Right now, the rumored Nikon P8000 is the only camera with the specs I am looking for. I hope Nikon perfects it before they release it and puts a bit of the RX100mk3 and G1Xmk2 in it. I just need it to be small/light enough to fit in a small belt pouch, since I will never cram any camera in a shirt or pants pocket. The G1Xmk2 was pretty much a flop with it's low resolution, 2 year old, no EVF, low efficiency sensor. It also seems to be having issues with its AF and macro mode.

Don't you ever worry about pocket lint? Maybe your pockets arent as grotty as mine. I sometimes carry a camera in a pocket but its always inside a small case in the pocket. Can't imagine going "naked" with a stylus 1 in my jacket :)

Oh, sure I worry about pocket lint. We'll see what I use with the Stylus 1 when I actually put it in a pocket. I generally like soft neoprene-type bags for such purposes. But even a plastic bag will work. For outside the pocket, I'm looking that this bag, which fits the Stylus 1 perfectly:
