Great speech that goes way beyond photography... food for thought don't you think?

What an amazing life he has lead. If he had ONLY created those amazing photos, that would be enough. But what he did beyond that is a gift to humanity.

I ♥ trees.

and just in case....... Santa Claus, I've been a very good boy this year...... Sebastião Salgado. GENESIS, Art Edition No. 301–400 ‘Marine Iguana, Galápagos, Ecuador’ (Limited Edition) - TASCHEN Books

I agree with you words Luke... he already is an incredible photographer, yet he is way more than that. As for your santa claus present...wow that is incredible. I do own that book, but the 'cheap' $100 dollar one, which is quite huge and impressive.

I was looking at that "cheap" one myself (I won't tell you HOW cheap it is here in the states or you might FREAK OUT). Some of the reviews talked about how awful the layout was spreading so many photos out as two page spreads with the page break ruining the enjoyment. I assume that is just people looking for something to complain about?

Ok Luke, yes I just checked on amazon... and yeah I would freak out. it sucks leaving at the last piece of land in this planet. but again not the point here.

As for the review you read... Im not sure if are into photobooks or consider yourself a photobook collector or something like that. Im definitely not a heavy book collector yet i do have quite a few photobooks from different photographers. But as for Genesis, this is definitely a tabletop book. it is heavy at 4kgs (8.6 pounds) and thick. it is big as well and yes, some of the images are double spread, but because landscape oriented photos on single pages which considering is a vertical oriented book, they would be really small. And you want them big. All photo books run images as double spread and is fine. So yeah I think they are just looking for stupid things to complain. the layout is great, theres even some pull out pages that make the images even bigger. its great. Some of the images are simply breathtaking. Ansel Adams would be proud.

Now, my only complain, is that apparently half through that trip Salgado switched from film Leicas to digital Canons, and in order to make the images look consistent, some of the digital images look quite over-processed for my taste, almost HDR-ish. yet they are not HDR.

Overall this is a must if you are into world documentary, nature, wildlife, landscape, portraits in pure black and white form.
