Collages - A Great Way to Print Groups of Pictures

After hanging a number of prints I had made of National Parks and realizing our house wasn't big enough for everything I wanted to print, I started to wonder how I could get more stuff on the wall. The idea of a collage came up and I stumbled on these videos below:

She uses Photoshop Elements, which I already had, and her videos were easy to understand. I also liked her calm manner.

I've since printed and hung one of different shots of my family at the different parks, and began to go overboard on the whole collage idea. I'm now working on 6, to include my wife's family and mine, skiing that we've done, and my son's baseball games over the years. The biggest problem I've run into is trying to keep the numbers of pictures low enough so that they don't get too small in the collage. The one I already printed was 20" x 30", a 3/4" standout from Meridian. This worked out pretty well, which prompted me to start the others.

It can be a little frustrating when a subject of a shot fits what I want, but I'm not happy with the quality, since my technique or equipment may have improved. In the end, family and memories trump everything for me, so I'd rather have a less than perfect shot that evokes a good memory, rather than a perfect shot without something that matters.

Here's one example that I'll probably print 24" x 36" since it's got a lot in it.

That's a neat way of getting all those images up on the wall in one go. I'd love to get some more prints made up soon but I think I prefer the impact of single, big prints. Unfortunately it does mean that you have to be very decisive when it comes to choosing which images to print :)

Yeah I still like the big prints too, but this was an option to fit more into a smaller space. In a perfect world I'd buy a bigger house and have plenty of space for all the same shots. Unfortunately I need a lot better job to make that happen :)
