I'm in Goa India in a somewhat rural area for a month and have been out walking the local roads with the RX1. Thought I'd share a few from the last couple days

I want to go to Goa ………………don't fancy the "Live fresh chicken" - prefer mine on the BBQ

all interesting good shots mike, please keep them coming

where about is this ……. in Goa itself?

(I know that you are suffering from strong sunlight, but some of the shots may just need a contrast or saturation tweak to bring out the colours etc., more, IMHO - are there different settings in the RX1 and/or is the light pushing the shutters speeds to slightly over expose?)

Bill, i'm near the railway station in Majorda, Goa. The sunlight is "blingingly bright" and I have a tendency to wander in the noonday sun (love the heat).

map link: Majorda Junction · Majorda-Nuvem Rd, Seraulim Railway Station, Majorda, Goa 403713, India

I picked up a new notebook for the trip and have not checked color calibration so that may also explain the color/contrast issue you are seeing. will Take that into consideration when processing.

Wifi is often out so will post more when possible.

Mike

I would think it is the shots were the bright sunshine just blows out the sky - which must be bright blue?

have you got your DP2M with you?

additional shots very good and interesting …….. mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid day sun!

No motor cycle "crash helmets" out there - they must be mad!

Is it a "happy" place to be?

Very nice set of photos, gives a good feel for the place.
Bill, third world countries often seem allergic to crash helmets and seatbelts - no matter how many lives they could save. I'm not sure if it's a money issue (it might be with the helmets), but I know pride in "being a good driver / rider" often plays a role too...

@BillN... Had to leave the DP2M behind. It was a tuff decision but having the RX1 and the EP5 with 45-175, 7.5 fisheye and 14mm packed small and gives a lot of versatility. The sky is often a washed out blue due to sun (very high contrast). Some people wear helmets but most scooter riders are too poor to afford one. The people are very friendly and helpful and take an interest in where you are from. I spent 20 minutes with Franco talking about the US and India (he's a local small market type store owner) after he offered me a seat to drink a coke and eat chips.

@davect01... scooters and motorcycles are in abundance. Its one of the least expensive vehicles to own and gives great mileage per liter. I did target quite a few in order to capture those that are masked. I often see 3 persons on one scooter, no helmets.

one at the train station. The sun was high on the right so sky is blown out and the polarizer/angle was a "wash"

Hey Mike, if you're around Margao, grab lunch at "Nostalgia" for a local Goan meal

Then Martin's Corner is a good bet is you like butter garlic crab. Book for a Saturday evening if you can and you might catch the locals jiving the night away.

Highly recommended is a day trip up north to Ashwem beach to eat at LaPlage. It has a tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes on the menu that is to die for.

Have fun!

Love to see you pics, very interesting captures :) I have a polarising filter in my RX1 when in Spain and it works quite well. I also bought a 6 stop ND filter but have never used it!

Thanks for your comments.... When the angle is right, the circular polarising filter works great. Wish I had thought to bring a ND filter. The other problem here is sketchy internet. When it doe work it's slightly faster than dialup

Boid, enjoyed your Goa set... not sure how i missed it previously. I like the beach but have a tendency to wander and stay at some diff places. Currently I'm at a camp run by Idex. Idex hosts people that want to do volunteer work in Asia (and will rent to wanderers also). Here in Majorda they provide 3 meals a day and wireless internet as part of the pkg. It's pretty spartan accommodations and a 40 minute walk to the beach. In a few days i'm moving closer to the beach. Will lose the internet for a couple of weeks before moving on to Colva

The power went out in the town around 9am. I took a long walk and found the crew that was working on getting it restored. When i returned at 2pm, the first flickers began.

Repair crew..... reminds me of the US with 2 doing the work and 3-5 supervising

I see women dressed in the same "costume" everywhere in India. They go around collecting cans, glass and plastic bottles.
