Samsung Samsung NX image thread

Can anybody here advise a 'basic' preset to use in light room with nx300? I mean a 'vector' of settings to start from when processing images from nx300. Thx!

I have a lot of LR presets but to be honest, I find that the colors right out of the NX300 are very pleasing. They seem sightly warm like my Tamron lenses on my Canon DSLRs, which I like especially for people and skin tones. I don't fiddle with colors much, just exposure, shadows, vibrance, and sharpness the majority of time. Sometimes saturation if I want to boost blue skies or something like that. (I shoot RAW so the colors do require a little bump compared to JPEGs).

You can get really sharp stuff using the LR sharpening (use all of the sliders there, not just the one "amount" slider). Matt Everglade does an excellent job of sharpening that make the subjects pop right out of the image. I resize my images to 1000px on the long side for posting here but I don't sharpen those so the images I post here aren't quite as sharp as my full sized files when side-by-side, but I don't care.

If you want free LR presets, they are all over the place. "Weekly Photo Tips" usually posts links to free presets often. If you don't mind paying about $100 for over 300 presets, SLR lounge is a great source (work with LR4&LR5).

Hello and thank you! I hope that you like your new camera and are inspired to take some great images with it.

I think that I have my NX300 set up fairly simply. I use Aperture Priority (A) mode just about 100% of the time and just use the raw files to process in Lightroom but if you want to use the wifi connectivity of the NX300 to upload files directly from the camera I think that you would need to also shoot in jpeg.

I set "Framing Mode" to Off so that I always see the correct exposure of the final image and can see the effects of exposure compensation.

My Auto ISO limits are set between 100 and 3200. The NX300 has a very comprehensive menu for customising the Auto ISO parameters, which I wrote about in this thread: Samsung - Auto ISO logic, done logically.

For quick access to camera settings you can use the Fn button on the back of the camera, and if your lens/es have an iFn button (almost all do except except for the earliest lenses like the 30mm pancake) you can choose various settings such as aperture, ISO or Exposure Compensation to toggle between and then adjust them by turning the focus ring on the lens.

Brilliant, I'll make sure I use these settings :) Do you have any advice for the sharpening or colour settings? I've heard Samsung images can be a tad soft straight out of the camera, do you use the in-camera sharpening at all?

I've just picked up the 30mm 2.0 and 45mm 1.8 and can't wait to get out and start shooting!
