Sony Sony RX100M3 why can't I select drive mode while in manual setting?

I don't know, it seems to work OK on my RX100 mk I

I just select M on the top dial, then press the left side of the rear control wheel to access drive modes. There's no apparent restriction, it even seems to work in Bulb mode.

I doubt that the menu system differs between the RX100 variants in this respect, so something else may be restricting drive mode selection. I can't see what though, as the manual suggests that the drive modes available in PASM modes are the same. The only function you lose with M mode is Exposure Compensation.

Welcome to the site, btw.

I can select drive mode on my Rx100 mIII, I am in manual, I hit the FN button and I can change the drive mode to all the given settings. So, something isn't quite right with your camera.

R...thanks for the response. When I set the M and hit the left rear control dial, the screen just goes black. If I go through the function key, drive mode is grayed out when in M mode. Wish it worked. I like having it set a 2 seconds and let it take the photo. Keeps the camera nice and steady for certain shots.

I did what you just said, hit the left rear control dial and was taken to the drive menu and can select any setting, I also use the 2 second mode a lot. Maybe there is a way of resetting your camera, because the MIII can do this, as mine is.

Lucille, when I try that, I get this message........."This operation or setting not available as follows.....ISO....MultiFrame NR". I think it is somehow linked to some setting.

Lucille........I figured it out a minute before your suggestion. It is tied into NR. Works now! Spent a couple of hours messing with it last night.
Glad it is working. I took some M mode photos last night of the night sky and they turned out really great. Wanted to use the 2 sec drive mode
and just could not get it to work. I'll use it again tonight. I just bought this camera a couple of weeks ago and still figuring it out. Thanks so much
for the help.

Honey, the Rx100 MIII is a very powerful feature packed little jewel of a camera with a superb lens, you made a great purchase and will enjoy this tiny easy to carry everywhere camera. The features and menu's do take some learning, but the files will reward you.

Good luck,
Hepkitty

For what it's worth, I just tried manual mode with multi-frame NR selected and the (lack of) drive mode functionality of the RX100 mk 1 is the same.

Glad you worked out what was causing the problem.
