Panasonic Panasonic TZ100 w/ 1" sensor

There is not full size samples anywhere from that camera... Until then, we have these... Since it is a prerelease editions, I am sure Panasonic doesn't allow people to post full size... Hopefully the lens will match the sensor esp with the aggressive range...

I think Panasonic will do good with the Leica lens, because it's a $700 camera. I just hope the whole camera is good physically. I bought the Pana LF1 and the Leica 'C' equivalent a couple years ago - very tiny cameras with big ambitions and pricetags, and physically they weren't premium like the price suggested. So I'm crossing my fingers on this one.

I've never had any issues with my Panasonic purchases (admittedly, I've only had fixed lens) and have always found the results to be superior to those from other similar products. None have broken or stopped working. Even the old FZ100 is fully functional, and does a great job, though the IQ is way behind most of what's out there these days.

Working in photographic retail I can say that Panasonic are the most reliable product we sell!!!

On a secondary note; I have had just about everything except Pentax and Samsung and I would also say that Panasonic are tops. Canon have always been good for me as has Sony. Nikon on the other hand....Humph! Olympus have been good but I did have a lot of trouble with 2 E-PL2's back in the day.

Nikon on the other hand....Humph!

Details (please)? I think at some point we all look at a Nikon as a potential purchase so it would be good to know. Only last week, I was looking over second hand A7 and D610 cameras in a well known Camera shop in Sydney. When I started looking at the D610, the staff said to me "don't get that, they're crap" which surprised me. Wish I'd asked why.

OK, Through our retail outlet we see no more repairs than canon but they do have a habit lately of bringing out a new camera and having to re-call it as it has problems. Nikon are not alone in this but lately they have had many problems. Let's hope they have learned by their mistakes eh!

Personally I bought a D3100 new and tested it in my car before going home. The mode dial did not work so I took it back. Apart from the Olympus, Nikon is the only other manufacturer that I have had a problem with. So between me and Nikon in general they are the worse from where I sit. I know their semi pro and pro cameras are fantastic and cant wait to try the D500 when it's released. That looks like a proper Pro build!

P.S> D610 are not crap!! There is no bad camera these days.

I had a play with the Panasonic TZ100 yesterday. Very nice! Feels real good solid quality. View finder is much better than the other TZ's. IQ looks good but can't test that as I could only see the image on the back of the screen. I'm working at a show in London with Panasonic so will hopefully have a chance to play with it some more.

If you learn more or get a chance to do some shooting with it, let us know. It would be interesting to learn just how quickly maximum aperture drops from f/2.8. What is it, say, at 35mm? At 50mm?

DPR also says it's at f/5.1 at 100mm equivalent. So not as bad as you feared ;)

And that's fine. I was just hoping for f/2.8 to hang on to maybe 35mm and maybe f/3.5 at 50mm before things began stopping down quickly. I fully expected the entire longer half (or more) of the focal range to be f/5.6. Still, I can probably work with it.

Oh, another little tidbit that will make John Flores and me very happy: a youtube hands on video confirmed that it will have a standard micro usb port, rather than a panasonic proprietary one! Lens does look massive, but other than that, I am very excited about this camera.

Panasonic told me that they are going to use the micro USB port as a std on future cameras and the same will apply to the batteries. There will be fewer batteries so more cameras with the same battery...YAY!

That's what Leica did for the first time, with the Q - the Leica/Panasonic collaboration grows...
