dear all
You must have thought I had fallen off a cliff edge ......or been eaten by a crocodile. Within a week of my arrival in Australia on a 10 week trip I fell ill to an intestinal parasite. This caused severe problems for me and....to be delicate.......it caused me to lose 2 stones in weight and I have still not recovered. The parasite cannot be eliminated with antibiotics and it may go of its own accord; or it could be with me for the rest of my life. Suffice to say, most days I could not be far from "facilities". Much of the first 3 weeks I was either without Internet or where I had access it was as slow as what you might have remembered from the 1990's and very expensive.

Anyhow, I am back. My photography has been very.....shall I say......understated and I sometimes go weeks without picking up a camera. I am just starting to learn to live with my limitations and go out when I feel it is safe to do so.

My apologies for going absent without leave, especially in respect of the comp I was supposed to moderate. I will have a look and comment on the result I see has been kindly dealt with in my absence.

It must have seemed rude of me not to have come forward earlier.

Once again, my apologies and I look forward to being back amongst friends.

I was SURE you had met an untimely early demise. So glad to hear you're still with us, Pete. I trust your sense of humour will again see you through this tough scenario. Any shots from down under? Even if it's just "the facilities".

Welcome back, Pete. What a revolting development.. and I'm not trying to be cute. I'm sorry your trip was trashed... but I'm even more sorry that you've this pesky parasite to deal with. It's amazing, isn't? Medical science has come so far... and yet there's still so much they don't know and can't do.

Thanks all, appreciate your kind words. At least it took my mind off my painful ankle which is going to receive a steroid shot this week. Talk was of fusing a number of bones in the ankle area, but when I was told it could be 4 to 18 months recovery I chose the steroid as a first option.

I did some street shooting in London last night and it was pretty uncomfortable when I got back home.

I am 61.....nearly 62 now. I keep looking behind me to see what has fallen off1

Blimey Pete! You don't do things by halves do you!? Sorry to hear of your travails, but it's good to have you back.

Persevere with the steroid jabs - but perhaps don't go for a yomp for a day or two afterwards! I had an injection in each heel a couple of weeks ago to counter plantar fasciiitis and they do work - if you give them a chance ;)

By the way, should we give "Bruce" his own login...?o_O

Cheers for the advice Bill, much appreciated. I hear that PF is very painful so if the injection has done well for you I am happy to give it a go

Bruce? You got me there. I am having a senior moment.

Damn Pete. Sounds like your mishap in New York City a few years back, but with much longer lasting consequences. I'm sorry for all of your health issues and hope you can find many more good days mixed in among those that aren't. And that the bad ones get easier to tolerate.

Hang in there,

-Ray
