Anarchy? .......That's Not Anarchy!

I am rather disappointed at the standards of anarchy these days. I attended the "Million Mask Protest" against capitalism, the government, the police etc. It promised anarchy, but all we got were a few fireworks and a man in a rubberised "Budgie Smuggler".

"Who owns the streets" they chanted "We do" they replied. Hate to tell them, but as a non anarchist I pay my taxes so.....I think I own them along with other tax payers.

I have seen more anarchy trying to get the grandchildren to bed when they have a sleepover!

Aah. Isn't it nice to see the middle-class Millennials out playing for once before going home for a delivery pizza and a nice hot cup of cocoa made for them by their mum...

...in my day we knew how to protest, and we weren't into material things. "own the streets", indeed - the only street they will ever own is the Old Kent Road on a Monopoly board at Christmas at their Nan's house. ;)

Great reportage, Pete. I admire your ability to get into the thick of it and come back with shots like these.

Thanks Bill. My yardstick for anarchy is Grosvenor Square US Embassy, and the stop the city riots. Proper weird beard anarchy! I have to say that on one hand I was disappointed that there wasn't more dramatic stuff to be had.....but on the other glad that my old colleagues in blue didn't have to suffer at their hands. I have to say though I quite enjoyed that sort of stuff when I wore the blue serge way back in the mists of time.

I was in St Martin's Lane during the Poll Tax riots. I wasn't there to demonstrate - far from it. I was at a matinee performance at the theatre. When we went in everything was normal, then we came out into a war zone with smashed shop windows and burnt-out cars. It was eerily silent - the police had the protesters bottled up in Trafalgar Square at that point. As we stood there wondering what was going on the strategy changed and the protesters were dispersed. There was a tsunami of sound and we suddenly found ourselves runnning ahead of a sea of angry people just trying to stay alive.

Now that was a demonstration...!

And living in their parents basements.
Funny thing is, these yahoos are protesting the very things and people that allow them to do so.
We call them snowflakes on this side of the pond for a reason, they have no real substance, and when they run up against serious opposition, they just melt away.

I don't enjoy moderating politics, so please feel free to leave comments about the PHOTOS, but not about the people in the photos. Whether one is for or against what is going in the photos is politics...it is choosing sides.

Thanks for the images. Do you have any technical data on them?

(and without wishing to discuss politics, were you looking for anarchy at the march, or for chaos or disorder or just conflict? From what I've read, while the marches inevitably include some anarchists, they also include every other type of protester - one group I saw seemed most interested in getting "flat Earth" science [sic] into schools)

Hi thanks for the comments. If you click on the pictures they will take you to Flickr where you'll find the exif data. I believe I used the Panasonic FZ2000 at high ISO and the Ricoh GR. Both I think performed very well for me.

I was hoping for more "animation" something "more interesting" but without anyone getting hurt, especially the cops (I was one myself)

Thanks

Pete

Thanks Pete. I couldn't see them in Flickr because I don't have an account there.
