So, I went to my local camera store, seriously looking to walk out with a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 in MFT mount.

They didn't have one and I looked at their used case. Tucked up into the corner of one cabinet i see a GR. Price was right. Got it home, battery charging...might get a chance to get out tomorrow and use it.

I have owned a few Fuji X100 cameras, but never gelled with them. The GR, from the reviews seems to address a lot of issues I disliked about the Fuji. I'm sure time will tell.

Color me jealous! Years ago I had a GX100. I still miss the brilliant simplicity of the interface. Are they still set up so if you want to look at pictures and the camera is off you can just press and hold the Play button?

Yes, that function is present on the GR II.

I almost got a Pentax Q10. They had one there with the 5-15 kit lens for $90. I might still go back for it....just to play about with. Maybe adapt some lenses to it.

Resistance is futile. There's something about the little Ricoh. I have had GRs since film days. They have always been "right". I would hate for the current iteration to be the last but knowing Ricoh as I do I suspect that there is a small offce of very dedicated gentlemen tucked away somewhere in that massive company working quietly on the GRIII...

I was delighted to find that the Canon G5X has this marvellous feature too.
Canon has had this for ages - the old S95 does it too. Anyhow, the G1X III is the first camera that comes close to the seemless functionality of the GR in my experience (the GR II is even better for those who love to use wireless) - without reaching it fully, however, and it's bigger of course; the Canon's more versatile, though. But the GR still holds its own - the lens is a gem, and I'm constantly amazed by the images I get. The G1X III is really good as well (the sensor's underrated, as is the lens - in a zoom compact, both are pretty amazing; more akin to what the Leica X Vario does than a Sony RX100 or G7X II, but in a body as compact as a G5X), but the GR is *really* compact and so nice in the hand. Nothing beats it (yet). I really hope the rumors of a compact FF GR (called GR-E online - but if that's legit is anybody's guess) are, in essence, true ...

probably heresy to even suggest it here where everyone thinks cameras need to be "pocketable", but I'd love to see them make a bigger one with a built-in EVF. I love the camera and the controls, but I never seem to get used to using a camera without bringing it up to my eye.

Yep and if you hold the effect button for a couple of seconds it turns on the wifi and automatically connects to a previously paired device, to use for camera control or uploading shots... (y)

They’re a ridiculously good camera in such a compact, lightweight, easy handling body with an intuitive interface to match. Welcome to the club! :2thumbs:

Is there an app for controlling the camera? The manual I found has you go to a website for a browser layout. Seemed kind of clunky to me.
It is clunky. It doesn't bother me as I don't use the GR to control it remotely, but if I did, I think I'd get quite frustrated! Let us know how you get on, maybe you can do us all a favor and provide a dummies guide.

I wasn't really wanting it for control, but for downloading images via WiFi. No big deal, though as I can just use the SD card method.

The app is Image Sync, it allows for wireless image transfer, review and control. I haven’t had to take the card out of the camera since I bought it...

The camera control function, if nothing else, makes for an excellent remote trigger, with the camera sitting on the table pointing into the street etc, while I sit there drinking a coffee, taking candid shots, looking like I’m engrossed in my phone... (y)

I haven’t tried it with Cascable yet but that probably works too...

Awesome, thank you!

I did get a few today. Nothing spectacular, but I had it in my jacket pocket, barely noticed it.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate this weekend and i can use it some more.

Congrats on the new camera. I really thought about the x100, but never got one. For me it was the focal length, got an X70 last year and am enjoying it though I also have the PL15 for my m4/3 system so I have considered letting the X70 go.

I'm usually really big on needing a viewfinder. I decided to give the Ricoh a whirl despite it not having one. If I like it enough to keep it, I'll probably find a 28mm optical to throw on the hotshoe.
