grebeman,.......thanks for your message. I was only at this pond for about 10 minutes (and shot three frames) and the heron caught 5 small fish while I was watching. However, this is the first heron that I have seen there this year. In fact, I would estimate that there is less than one fifth the bird life there this year. This pond has become much more popular with herons over the last four years but this year they have left it alone,..even before the startling colour change.
 
Reed Warblers nest

Whilst out in a boat today on Slapton Ley assessing the damage being caused to Phragmites reed by grazing Canada Geese we found this Reed Warblers nest. The supporting reed stems (last years old stems, which is normal for Reed Warblers to use) have unfortunately been damaged by the Geese putting the nest in some peril. At present it contains 3 eggs.
