Anyone want to join in another challenge - "The Single in...."?

Therein lies the challenge Kal. Stick with it...we are here for you...seriously!

Just imagine folks who do this for an entire year. A photo a day with the same camera, lens and film. Now that's a steely fortitude!...with a reward only on every 25th or 37th day depending on your choice of film length.

Perhaps "a photo a day" project is actually easier with with film than digital?

Just, hear me out for a second :)

It occured to me, that as I'm walking around looking for that days picture - If I was using film, I might think I had made a good picture; and be satisfied that I had fulfilled my day's goal.

But with the immediacy of digital, after reviewing, I see that it's never going to survive the "edit bin", or that I am not satisfied, and so I keep searching.

With a 36roll, I might shoot two rolls a month. With the "ease" of digital, I shot over 100 on Saturday alone.

Since Friday (when this began) my photographic output has been far greater than usual! And I have made more good pictures than I would have done if I were not participating in the challenge, and I agree it is great for learning - but searching for that moment, shooting, editing, and staying true to your photographic ideals without getting lazy, every day.... it sure is hard work.

Thanks for being honest Kal. It definitely is hard work! I have the benefit of having done this a few times now....so it's only because I know what lies at the end that I am spurned on day-to-day. Sort of what keeps us going with many things in life really....and I don't even have the benefit of the miraculous feeling of childbirth :tomato2:

Having said that, the real fugue sets in about Day 20 - with still over a week to go, the end still looks so far away. But, again, it's getting over those humps and the feeling in the end - especially when you look back at your photo stream and the different relationship that you have with your camera - make it all worth it. Trust me

No thank you Kal. Not only are you shouldering the challenge, but I se you taking the time out to comment on al our photos. That's the spirit we need if we're to pull this off as a group. :grouphug:

it is easy for me to take the shots, (but not good ones!!!), as we are on holiday

The problem is I take maybe 50 images and can find fault with every one

The MF Leica is not that easy to use if you wear glasses - I need to get one of those "padded ring things" that fit around the viewfinder as I am beginning to scratch my glasses, (spectacles)

good luck to all and keep "at it"

Very disappointing BBW, I thought you were made of steelier stuff . Seriously though it is damn hard to make the time and keep the inspiration for doing this sort of challenge. Congrats to all that are hanging in there, don't let up the results are stunning so far.
This is the second time I have done one of stillshunter's "single in .......'s" and I believe my "learning graph" makes a massive jump during the process. Mind you it was September last year when I did the first one and it has taken until now to get over it .

Just a note for anyone looking at my efforts, please fill free to sink the slipper and let me know what you REALLY think and how the images could be improved. Constructive criticism is welcomed.

Anyway, enough of my drivel. Get on with it.

I am off today so will do more, work has been kicking my a** so none from Thusrday I fear

Folks, my sincerest apologies. It's pretty rude that the person who spruiked this challenge should be one of the first to bow out of it disgracefully! :tomato2:

In my defence, with the long hours at work - seeing me leave before the sun rises and get home well after it has set - as well as farm duties on both sides armed with a head-torch, I've not found the opportunity to take shots...for pleasure or challenge! I suppose the first Singles challenge was in September 2010 and that allowed me some light....but I'd not anticipated how hard this was going to prove in the height of Winter!

So hats off to each and every one of you who've continued, and a very deep bow for the Aussies and other Southern Hemisphere dwellers who've maintained the rage. I'll comment on your photos shortly.

My apologies again and hope this doesn't completely erode what little reputation I had built up over my short time here. :crying:

I did wonder what had happened to you Bill. Hope you get better soon.

Mark, I figured you were buried deep in Aussie snow and that we'd hear from you when you thawed out in the spring (does it snow in Australia?)

Anyway, I for one would like to see you both jump back into the challenge when you are ready/better/dug yourself out of the snow. (Really, do Aussies have a winter?)
