I took my X-T1 and new-ish XF 18mm f2 on a 4 hour whirlwind tour of Fayette County, WV today, photographing waterfalls in the rain. Twelve waterfalls in all, some requiring a good bit of scrambling up and down steep, wet, rocky slopes . . . which I love doing! Some of the bigger waterfalls were throwing out a lot of spray, and I was glad I had a CP filter under the hood. I'm pretty pleased with the results; I think this lens produces a better IQ than the Tokina 17mm I was using, and is considerably smaller and lighter. Win-win.
The last photo has an interesting story. The retaining wall that stretches across the top of the grotto has an old road behind it. I did not climb up there today because the hill is very steep and it was very wet from all the rain (and there were no handholds), but there's another waterfall above the road. Some sources say the road is the remnants of the original road that ran through the area, commissioned by George Washington in 1790, and long since replaced by the modern day road that runs along the river.
