X100

I have to aha moments here - one that you're back up where you love it and the second is that this was a glorious day!

Am I right that this is your first X100 photo here, John? It's still early for me so my brain may still be asleep. Congratulations!

Yes, BB this is my first post with the X100, and also yes that I am home for my annual summer vacation. The Northshore of Boston is a great location in the summer and having grown up on the coast and the water, where the majority of my family still makes their living on the water, it has an additional significance to me. I do not miss the winters though!

I had been saving for a wide angle lens for my Canon DSLR, but for the time being at least, I put that off and succumbed to the allure of the X100 egged on of course by this site and Don in particular. I have only owned it for a few days and have not been disappointed especially in the jpeg output. My earlier image was strictly jpeg and edited only in Aperture 3 without the aid of my normal crutch, which is the NIK Collection Suite.

Anyway, still trying to get up to full speed with the X100, but I am finding that in spite of the software quirks that is pretty easy to work with the camera. Of course I have had the benefit of all the early adapters and posts here and elsewhere.

Here are a couple more waterway images.

It looks to me as though you're in heaven, John. Your second one has stolen my imagination and I'm trying to figure out how to be in that scene. Gorgeous lighting falling on that red house and the trees on the other shore.:cloud-9-039:

Congrats again, John and I look forward to hearing and seeing more of your adventures with the X100 in hand.

Cropped, unfortunately, but there was some unsightly "stuff" over on the left side of the picture. Still, this camera does great work even when one needs to crop. 99.999% of the time I do not choose to crop after the fact but hey...sometimes ya gotta do what you gotta do. This is a very good old pal... This is quintessential her. I also did it in black and white - which I think I prefer. But, sometimes I think it's OK to like both color and B&W.

I like them too BB. This one in particular I prefer in B&W. I like the color, but I think the bright shirt pulls too much attention to itself - in the B&W the eye just gravitates to her face, where it belongs!

Really nice, Karen. Love the shot and the treatment.

BB, wonderful portrait. I actually prefer the color. I feel like I know her better, which to me is the most important thing about a portrait.

Very eerie and intriguing, Alex. Your second is my favorite - all the elements, architectural and surrounding details...with the lighting and placement of those people are just great. I also like the runner with that split walkway leading us back...and yet he's still pushing us forward, out and off of the image plane. Your first makes me think of a scene from either a scifi or horror movie. The black and white works beautifully for each. Very nice!

Wow - just checked back here - great stuff happening.

Karen, two incredible shots and the processing on both is just sublime. I don't have an ipad, but if I ever get one, I KNOW what the first app I'll put on it is!

Alex, very nice set. The third one in particular is great. Wonderful lines leading the eye into and through the image and great details to check out in the clouds, buildings, railings, etc.

Went up to meet up with some friends and hear a band. They were very good - the harmonica player really added the wow element.

I have more pictures...some rather surprising ones, and rather entertaining ones here. A local newspaper...let's be clear here, we're talking about a weekly newspaper in the sticks, asked me for my pictures. I may be famous.:D

Of course in hindsight, I should have set the camera on Shutter Priority...but there I was in Aperture priority..but at least I had Auto ISO on my side. Never took pictures of a band before.;)
