Panasonic Panasonic DMC-FZ1000/FZ2500

Very foggy start today. Taken about 40 minutes apart.

This is a cross-post of an image from one of the clouds threads, but this one was run through Nik Color Efex Pro to tweak contrast and bring the detail out a bit more. I'm liking this camera a lot:

I think this one is just stunning. The Panasonics seem to do clouds really well, and post processing makes them even better!

I confess myself disappointed at the quality of these images. I understand they were mostly in the shade of a tree, but it seems I got camera shake, despite having stabilization enabled. I'm still digging through the huge book I got when I purchased the camera, but these are not the quality I was hoping for.

For a shady area, they arent too bad. Full zoom or a bit of digital as well? Or are you cropping?

I had to switch digital zoom off entirely in the end because I found the quality really dropped off when light was not as good as it ought to be. And, I tend not to crop for closeup, too.

These were taken in the low morning light under our tree a few minutes ago, and are much better than yesterday evening's images. I discovered I had inadvertently left the camera on AF-Macro mode from earlier in the day, but I don't see how that would have affected IQ.

If you have a return on this camera, I would send it back. These pics have convinced me to never buy one. I hope you take this as Photo friend because your photography with you're Fuji was fantastic. There are no free lunches I guess.

Tim, that thought has already been percolating in my mind. There are things I like a lot about this camera. However, I often find myself in low light conditions. Even micro 4/3 can struggle sometimes. I haven't sold my other gear yet, and l'm going to give it some more thought, but it seems my current 2-camera setup is my best choice for IQ/weight. I really wanted this camera to work out, but that's life.

. . . with a sigh and a twinge of disappointment, he boxed up the camera for its return trip. His brief foray into superzoom photography at its end, his eye fell on his system camera sitting in its protective bag. "Told you so", the little ILC seemed to be saying.

It seems Panasonic may have a QC issue with the FZ2500. Mine is boxed and ready to be sent back tomorrow. I took it out again when I got home from church, and the majority of my images had focus issues. MF with this camera works fine, but the AF is often not focusing on what the display says it is. DPR said their first review copy was so bad, they sent it back and asked for another copy. On the other hand, I've read other comments that said their FZ2500 was stellar, and there are 35 pages worth of excellent FZ2500 images on Flickr. I based my purchase of the FZ2500 largely on those images. In good light, the camera sitting beside of me works great; it seems to fall apart when the light starts to drop. It's a pity, but I won't be taking my chances on another Panasonic superzoom.
