GAS Latest Shiny Things (non camera related)

But not a camera. My GAS is still (more or less) in check.

Two of these, but more shall be acquired over time.

Alright....I'll take the bait. Here's my latest "shiny things".....a collection of around 3000 LPs. I rented a moving truck and will be driving down to Chicago tomorrow to pack them up and bring them home. I expect to have a sore back for a few days. I've been told that they are an impeccably-maintained classical record collection....at least they were before the realtor unceremoniously removed them from their climate controlled shelves and were stacked like cordwood in a damp garage...luckily it's only been a few weeks, so there shouldn't be any long-term moisture-related issues....probably nothing more than dusty covers and some bent corners.

Once the hard work of moving them is over, I look forward to finding out what is all in there....sorting the wheat from the chaff, and hopefully selling enough of the chaff to cover the expense of the moving truck and a bottle of pain relief (I'm leaning towards bourbon, although a gin martini is always nice with some chamber music). Here's hoping their taste wasn't completely daft....although usually a collection like that isn't put together by a half wit.

Lucky you didn't have a sister that sold off your vinyl collection after you moved out eh? (not that I'm bitter or anything like that!)

Will be here Saturday.

2 steps up from the current Grados I have, the SR80e.
These SR225e have a more tamed treble section and a better low end.

But this guy is the real "shiney":

Much warmer and fuller sounds than the solid state amp I have.

My ears are in heaven!! :)

I envy your ears :)

I opted to buy a 2017 iPad pro (12.9") and Smart Keyboard. Hated the keyboard, it was missing they function keys I had got used to having with my Logitech Type+ (iPad Air2) and so I have sent that back and acquired a Logitech Slim Combo smart keyboard and case, with which I am very pleased!

Rather than a photo, I'll post a link. I bought mine on ebay at a significant discount.

the Little Dot + Grados is a great combo. Be careful though, soon you'll have a drawer full of tubes. It is fun to try different options to tweak sound. The stock tubes with the Little Dot are fine, but it is kind of like a kit lens vs a nice prime.

I've been buying smart bulbs lately; they are getting really affordable. I have 2 in the lounge, 1 in the dining room and one on the upstairs landing. They are all controlled by Alexa. I have set up a number of scenarios. "start my day" (all bulbs 40% bright, red, Echo in the kitchen delivering flash briefing) "dinner" (lounge lights - 100%, daylight, all devices announcing "dinner is served") "relax" (lounge 40%, gold) and "goodnight" (all lights off except landing, 40% red)

My favourite is "battle stations"... All lights flash red, all devices play a Star Trek red alert klaxon and announce "deflectors to maximum, Sir") ... :D
