Hi Camerades

Hello members,

I decided to join and see what happens over here. I currently shoot many cameras, digital and film and I'm looking for a place who is open to multiple formats, less gear comparisons and more photography. I used to shoot photos which had a wider appeal like landscape and travel, but lately I'm really just documenting my family life, trying to get creative shots of our adventures.

I was once active at mu-43.com, but I feel that is getting a little defensive of the format of late and the vibe has changed. I also shoot mirrorless Sony FF which I enjoy using for portraits with vintage lenses. In film I shoot 35mm,6x6 and 4x5, mainly concentrating on B&W so I can learn printing in the darkroom.

I am totally open to all photography no matter the format, I have seen iPhone shots which leave my Sony FF shots to shame, understanding that it's the person behind the camera who makes awesome pics and often not the technical abilities of the cameras.

I'm looking forward to see what the new owner of this site does it with and getting inspiration and motivation from the members.

Welcome, siftu - and you're not the only expat from Mu-43.com, as I think you'll see soon.

You don't have to worry about all this system bashing - it simply doesn't happen here; on the contrary: You'll find a lot of people here who, like you, just shoot whatever they choose at the moment to produce images they like - and possibly like to share, too.

M.

Welcome aboard.

You will quickly discover that you’ve found the home you’re looking for here. We support all brands and types of cameras here. With no bashing as my esteemed colleague has mentioned.

You’ll also find many of us, me included, who document their family life.

In the short term, continue getting stuff optimized for the new server, getting stuff running as best as possible, and going through everything in detail to find out exactly what is being used & where. Amin, the Moderators team, and the members have made this a great community that is very welcoming of everybody regardless of what gear they use or their skill level (which is good for me ) so I don't want to make any changes that would disrupt that. Long term the goal is to update the site to the current version of the forum software while making sure we don't lose any functionality and adding new features. Along the way I'll be trying to promote the site to attract new community members and getting more exposure to the site. I've also been going through a lot of posts to see what member feedback is out there to start building the 'Wish List' to see what might be able to get added to the 'To Do' list.
... and getting inspiration and motivation from the members.
Me as well. :)

Welcome, I will echo the fact all cameras from instant to high end are used here. I use iphone, Nikon, Olympus, and Leica. But have been down the Fuji And Contax roads before.
Probably 50% of what I do is documenting family life. Look forward to seeing your contributions.

Thank you all, this year has been slow in with photography for me but here are my current streams: Instagram and my "most interesting" flickr which has been neglected for a few years and with the latest changes I might shut down. Going forward I want to really change my style and make more interesting photos, easier said than done.

Wow, so many great images!

With me being a sci-fi geek that Legoland shot of the Death Star immediately caught my attention. :D Is that an actual Legoland exhibit or a composite pic?

Your "Timeless" and "Point Reyes" images are shots that would make awesome posters!

I gotta say....I only peeked at your instagram for a minute or two .....some amazing shots in there.

I think everyone has a few amazing shots in them...I'd like to see the few best of everyone's.

I wish it were possible.....but the best are rarely "the favorites".

So we need to dig.....share some of your favorites....or share some that you thought were CLOSE to great, but failed somehow.

I'm rambling now...time for bed.

Its a real exhibit! No manipulation done. It was in the middle of the day outside with no cloud cover, the B&W treatment hid a lot of sins. Thanks for the compliments on "Timeless" and "Point Reyes", they were fun at the time but not the direction I'm going these days.

I get where you are coming from. My "most interesting" really don't rate high on my personal radar. I'm convinced my favorites have very small appeal to the general population.

The photo I wish I really got right was

I took this before I got the rangefinder aligned, and as a result the focus was off. It just doesn't print well but I really liked the frame

A couple I like which no one else seems too.

This one will always stick with me, mainly for the experience

This was a rice framer in Bali. I will never forget the look of gratitude he gave me after I gave him the a few cents. It was very real and felt very sincere.

I wouldn't say that, at least I like the B&W shot of the trees. My first thought was that silence that only happens after a snowfall; no wind, no noise, not even animals, just silence in cold crisp air. Where I'm at we don't get many days like that (because I'm in the 'burbs and on snow days the air is usually filled with the sound of snow blowers :cautious:) but when they do happen I like to just stand there for a few minutes taking it all in.

Welcome Siftu. I like your phrase “The photo I wish I really got right”. I have hard drives full of those. I liked the truck photo to which it referred, however.
