I am technically an Air Traffic Controller, but I'm timed out age wise. I have my thumbs in all sorts of pies: Quality Control and Training, Airspace and Procedures, Automation, even some IT here and there.
Too old at 60! what is the world coming to. That seems a bit much to a 73 year old but then again I did retire at 60!

LOL. I'm planning to retire this Autumn, too. In our profession, we are not eligible to work the operations after age 56. I'll have 32 years of service at my retirement. That's enough for me - time for a new chapter. There was an article in our agency newsletter not long ago about an agency employee that retired at 47 years of service! I cannot in any universe imagine working at my job another 15 years.

I can retire at 66 yrs. old from my job in October. My Director has me signed up for 5 more. Her timetable and mine are not even in the same Hemisphere. It's good to be loved but...….
My supervisor is trying his darndest to talk me out of retiring this year. I've accused him of secretly plotting with my wife, who also isn't fond of the idea. They both laugh when I suggest they are conspiring together, but I wonder . . .

Nice surprise to hear from another controller ; we're as rare as hen's teeth.
I worked for the UK NATS for 42 years at the UK's Major Airports and Centres then retired at 60 although we can stay longer.
It's a young man's game though.

I applaud your decision to call it a day, time for you and your wife to enjoy each other’s company.
When I retired from the U.K. civil Service at 60, in 2006, we made plans to travel and enjoy each other’s company, but alas my Mrs developed an incurable cancer in 2008 and passing away in 2010, Tony, I wish you and your wife many years of being together in mutual happiness!
