I didn't see this specifically, but thought it might be a good idea for us to share.

Since having the MONO dial on the Olympus PEN-F, I've been getting more and more into SOOC JPG processing. My usual workflow is to shoot RAW+F JPG with the "film simulation" of choice. The PEN-F gives you a lot of options for changing the looks.

Now, having the Fuji X-E3 and all those great film simulations, I thought we could use a thread to share images shot with the Acros film simulation. Please include any custom modifications you did like tweaking the shadows or highlights, sharpness, etcetera.

I tried a search and didn't see a thread like this anywhere. If this is popular, we can start other threads like one for Classic Chrome or other popular simulations.

I'll post a second thread with an example to get us started!

Having these different kinds of simulations and settings might help others find setups they like to try with examples.

I'm not 100% happy with this one as I had the exposure comp bumped up to +1. I tend to like my B&W more contrasty and my white/blacks more to either end of the histogram. From the same session at the first post.

And one last one with the current Acros settings. Again, this one had the exposure comp at +1, which is really not to my liking...but a mistake on my part.

OK, so I remembered to keep the Exposure Compensation at normal with these. I'm still not 100% happy with the white point, but again, still in the discovery phases.

I do realize now that the image with the fence and towing sign, being almost exclusively white, should have tried it with the exposure comp at +1.

In contrast, the white point in the church bell tower is about perfect as there were predominantly 18% gray tones in the majority of the image.

I admit - user error. :)

I was going to create a new thread...but this IS technically the Acros film simulation at its base. I found this over at fujixweekly. They tout it as a Tri-X film simulation. It kind of ticks some boxes for me as far a closer representation of what I like in a monochrome treatment.

I do agree that is does have a very film-like representation.

Film Simulation = Acros + R
Sharpness = -1 (I might bump this back up...but not sure...maybe to 0 or +1)
Shadows = +4
Highlights = +3
Grain = Off
Noise Reduction = -4
Dynamic Range = DR200
Exposure Comp = +1/3 to 2/3 (depending on what I saw in the EVF)
ISO = AUTO (Base 3200-Max 12800)

Lens used
Nikon 20mm f/3.5 AIS
Mitakon Lens Turbo II

The aperture on these shots was f/4 through f/8.

Processing in the JPG is SOOC, only thing I may have done is a slight rotation if the image needed it. I purposely shot these with the 1:1 aspect ratio.

Based on what the fujixweekly site stated, this is best to shoot without a lot of brightspots....so thought it would be great for today, which is extremely overcast. Also shot all these in RAW so I can go back and revisit them at any time.

I'm working on building a Kodak Panatomic-X film simulation. I reached out for help from the people over at FujiXWeekly.

Here is my start. I've only been able to test it inside at the moment. I think the highlights might be problematic (too hot) without some exposure comp adjustments.

Film Sim: Acros+Y/Acros+R (I'm personally liking yellow filter at this point)

DR: DR100

Highlight: +4

Shadow: +4

Noise Reduction: 0 or +1 (because of the very small/lack of grain structure of the original emulsion)

Sharpening: +3

Grain Effect: Off

ISO: Auto (200-800) - to keep the noise floor low as well as honor the original film which was usually ISO 25 or 100

Exp. Comp: Outside it might be -1/3 to -1 in bright sunlight. Inside, I was able to use 0 and it looked good.

Color: n/a

White Balance: Auto

No images to share yet...but hoping to get out and see what it looks like, weather permitting. I'll also report back any changes or updates during the testing phase.

Ok, finally some samples of the Kodak Panatomic-X.
These are with the preset as described above.

As mentioned, the highlights and shadows are a little too crushed, even for me.
These are all with native Fuji lenses (55-200, 16/2.8) and not adapted lenses.

Tweaked the film simulation a bit....think I have what I want now:

Film Sim: Acros+Y
DR: DR100
Highlight: +3
Shadow: +3
Noise Reduction: -1
Sharpening: +3
Grain Effect: Off
ISO: Auto (200-800) - to keep the noise floor low as well as honor the original film which was usually ISO 25 or 100
Exp. Comp: Outside it might be -1/3 to -1 in bright sunlight. Inside, I was able to use 0 and it looked good.
Color: n/a
White Balance: Auto

Lens Used: Fuji 90mm f/2 R LM WR

I like the look of the blacks in the Panatomic X simulation. I like my B&W to actually show some black and white and not just shades of gray.

Me too. I just need to decide if I like the yellow filter or the red filter better. The difference is subtle, unlike the green filter which is much more drastic in its contrast rendition in some scenes.

Not sure how I feel about this sim yet. In some ways, I love the range of it...but on the other side I'm not sure that I feel like I'm getting the contrast that I like in all situations like the Panatomic-X or the Tri-X Push sims do. Experimenting still, my thoughts might change.
