If you're still using Apple's Aperture on your MacOS machines, even though Apple discontinued updating it back in 2014, you'll be facing an upgrade decision. MacOS Mojave will be the last version of the OS that will support running Aperture "for technical reasons". Apple's suggestion is to migrate to either Apple Photos or Adobe Lightroom Classic.

The next MacOS is expected to be announced in September. On Apple's support page they give instructions on how to migrate to Photos or LR.

Good to know. I switched to Apple Photos a few years ago but do miss some of the features in Aperture. Have never tried Adobe lightroom but for many it seems to be a standard.

So does this mean if you can't upgrade the OS (older HW), then you're OK? I have a 2012/2013 27" iMac which I upgraded with an SDD last year and that thing runs perfectly. Will be using it a while more.

That's my interpretation... that if you are planning on upgrading beyond Mojave when it's released then you'll lose being able to run Aperture but if you're already running Aperture and won't be upgrading then you should be OK.

Aperture was discontinued by Apple back in 2014 so you may want to consider alternatives anyway.

Aperture at this time is suffering from lack of development for the last few years. I’ve spent a few weeks transferring Aperture photos to my hard disk. Sadly I think it may be time pull the plug on Aperture, I reckon I have forgotten how to use it, once upon a “lifetime” ago I much preferred Aperture, hey ho!

What are you contemplating for a replacement?

Kevin, already using Lightroom CC and have been fo a couple of years now. Which is why I’ve forgotten how to use Aperture. Slowly over some time I’ve transferred my photos out of Aperture to my hard drive, the announcement spurred me into completing the task! Lr uploads my images as necessary, but the originals are stored on my hard drive, not inside Lr.
I did try PhotoNinja, but didn’t like it.

I was going to reinstall Aperture. Then I had occasion to use Photos this morning and found that Apple has incorporated more usable editing tools, as well as letting us "Edit with.." other apps on the computer. Don't need LR, Don't need Aperture. Photos + externals + its internal tools... good stuff. I don't know how long it is since they did this, I havent used Photos for editing for months... but I like the improvements.
