Single in July (SiJy) 2019: Who's in?

I think the GX85 and the 20mm make a marvellous pair - that's what I'd use; not that the E-M5 II is a worse camera; I just like the Panasonic combo.

As to procedures: There will be a daily thread for the images - or at least, that's what we used the last couple of times; we have used the gallery before, but frankly, comments got a bit repetitive after a while. So we resorted to the buttons and discussed the challenge (and some of the images) in separate threads. Commenting is allowed, even encouraged, but not mandatory; I comment directly whenever an image really strikes me in a way that can't be expressed adequately by one of the icons.

The daily threads allow for easy scrolling and a quick first assessment - and they grow throught the day, so it's easy to find them and review them. I'm strongly in favour of keeping it that way, to be honest.

Go it. Yes, GX85 & 20 combo is always a favorite. That means I should probably choose the E-M 5.2 to "stretch" in the challenge.
Next challenge is making myself remember to post each day of July.

This july is looking to be extremely busy with work related travel for over half the month. Yikes. So I don't think I can count on using anything but a smaller autofocus camera. The last two challenges I did with the E-P5 and 20mm. And I restricted myself to doing only people images. So in order to change it up I am thinking to fall back on the Coolpix A. The only problem is I lost my original battery, so I only have a cheap second party one. But I may be able to pick another one up. I do have an extra charger. So Matt, unless I have a last minute change of heart. It is the Nikon Coolpix A for me.

Thanks everyone, and sorry for not speaking up these last couple of days - lots of work *and* social events queuing up. List updated.

Please start checking and/or completing your information; I should be able to keep on top of things during the next couple of days until we kick it off.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's word - not too soon for some new perspectives, either.

I've mentioned 3 possible scenarios in this thread and am no closer to deciding. Make your mind up time looms.
So I even missed one :) Still full days of deliberating ... I'll repeat what I said earlier: I'd love to see results from the Zeiss Biogon used on the M-E - daring, certainly, but oh so sweet ...

EDIT: That is, if you mean the "dirt cheap point&shoot" thing, that actually just gave me an idea; I'll use the Canon IXUS 132 (no idea what it was called in the States) as a sidekick camera - dirt cheap describes it very accurately. Still, in good light, this camera can put out usable results. And for the reach it offers, it's downright tiny. The GR is too much of a powerhouse to have as a secondary choice ;)

Changed my mind!
@MoonMind Matt, I will use the Sony A7R2 as mentioned before, but now with the Zeiss Loxia 21mm 1:2.8.

That last post has helped me make my decision - 21mm lens (Zeiss Biogon) with external optical VF. I don't use it that often and the reason is probably because getting a point of interest within such a wide FL is not easy. Plus the process of having to manually focus and only after that, compose. Having to use it every day will force the thought process.
That triggered me: I have the Zeiss Loxia 21mm, I hardly ever use it and if I do, I end up with very few keepers. Yesterday I went out with the street photography group from my photo club, I was totally uninspired and in an act of desperation I put the 21mm on my camera to see what would happen. I doubt if there are any keepers from the exercise :(.

The first time I got a 20mm in my hands (Minolta show at a dealer in 1980 or so), I fell in love with it and shot a whole film within half an hour. Since then, a 20mm was always part of my line-up, but these days I totally lost the feeling of how to put it to use. I think I'm done with the sort of pictures I've been making for more than a year and it's time to ramp up the challenge. So 21mm it is, hopefully I end up by not producing rubbish before the end of July!

Wow - very interesting setup; that's one of the lenses I'm industriously avoiding because I think if I ever get it into my hands, I'll end up buying it.

Looking forward to the results; one tip I received from a great wide-angle shooter is: Get close! That's what I love about the GR - its lens performs very nicely at close quarters (including its macro setting). I hear the GR III is even better - and I know we'll see results from that, too. Very intriguing!

@MoonMind I'll give this a shot. :)doh:)

Fuji X-H1 with XF 90/2

I need to participate more here. And I need to get out some everyday. Still recovering from some health issues, so I can't promise anything spectacular, might be a bunch of mundane, and there may be days of craptastic shots of stuff inside the apartment.

If nothing else I think I'll enjoy the interaction, viewing everyone's photos, and hopefully learn some things.

All clear - list updated, and I'm really happy to have someone else aboard who is going long. I was close to giving in to everyone teasing their 21mm gems and use the old Voigtländer Color-Skopar 21mm f/4 ... but now it'll be easier to persevere (besides, I do love the results from the 75mm Summarit and want to overcome its current speciality status in my bag).

Been mizzling about whether to join this time or not, I've been unmotivated and slumped for a year now. Maybe this will get me going. I'm going to use my Panasonic TZ90, simply because I have not bonded with it at all, and I need to. Maybe this is the opportunity I need. I will reserve the right to switch to my Pentax K5 + 50-200mm WR, because we have been having a ton of rain and the Panny isnt weather sealed.

Alright, it’s the 21mm for me Matt. Definitely. Can’t not do that after @addieleman ’s post, it really will be a challenge
Wonderful - looking forward to the results; you guys give this a real boost for me personally, which is always an added bonus!

Great to have you with us, Sue! Those little "Swiss pocket knife" cameras are always intriguing, I hope you can wrap your head around it.

Ok, I'm going to say the E-M5.2 and Lumix 20. My fall back will be the Laowa 7.5

July 1st is Monday in the u.s. - I will look for a thread and post ONLY ONE photo; correct?
As Bill said. The "Outtakes" thread will pop up as soon as it is needed (so, probably on day one ;)). Just out of curiousity: That'll be the 20mm II, right? Or did you get that lens a long time ago? I'm interested in knowing how this lens fares on the E-M5 II. btw. I too own the Laowa 7.5mm - now, only using *that* would be a challenge ... but that's an idea for another time. I'd need to be in a very quirky mood and work up to it in order not to fail that test ...

I still need data from @davidzvi as to what he's going to use; I'm also not sure what lenses @ajramirez (he'll post late, I'm fine with that), @AndyMcD and @Bobby Tingle have chosen (though I think the latter two will both use the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4); @drd1135 and @Matero just need to comfirm their picks.

Less than eight hours to go until it's gone midnight downunder and things can run their course.

List updated.

@rayvonn I hope you spotted my last edit in the post above - I'm really happy the two Zeiss 21mm lenses make a showing!

I did, but truth be told I was probably looking for an excuse to use something else and that’s because it going to be difficult. It’s winter down under, so I’ll have to be applying F2.8 in the dark a lot of the time and that might be a stretch. But if I were to change to something easier it wouldn’t really be a challenge would it. The RF patch should make it easier for me to identify some point of interest in the image - in theory.
