News Apple Lion

It lets you make drawings with plumbing tools. :)

(Seriously, the first version was all about the plumbing tools, but the UI changed after that.)

It's a long abandoned project, something that Aldus owned and Adobe aquired when it bought Macromedia.

Freehand is a very intuitive and flexible graphic design software, better in many ways than Adobe Illustrator. Unfortunately Adobe bought them out and stopped all development so it doesn't get upgraded. Up to now it had been possible to use fixes to make it work on new versions of OSX but with Lion it just can''t be done.
Flicker Freehand Group to give you an idea f what it does.

I still haven't upgraded. Someone wrote something about needing a "migration" application and right now I'd need some step by step hand holding to know what that is, and how to use it.

I remember Freehand from my old days as a graphic designer. And speaking of, Quark was just sold to a mergers and acquisitions company. Remember Quark?

I just upgraded today. It took a while but went smoothly. You just have to make sure that you have the latest pre-Lion OS X installed. Here is the upgrade info on the Apple web site.

Also be sure to do a Time Machine backup prior or even a full backup copy like Carbon Copy. Just in case.

I upgraded a couple of weeks ago and am finding many issues. Most apps I use regularly have been updated..this is good. However, disk utility is unwilling to do more than beachball if I want to look for a file to burn to CD/DVD and I gave up. iPhoto has become quite sluggish. I thought it was because I was still using the older version from iLife08, but when I upgraded to the more recent version... it was worse!

About 20 minutes ago I decided that I would revert to SL until the bugs are ironed out, and right now I'm on the Ubuntu netbook, waiting for my clean install to finish, on the iMac. I'll migrate the data from my my carbon copy cloner backup, and restore all my music, docs and photographs, and beyond that, start over.

(cups ear: I hear it calling me even as we type)

Which Mac are you using Sue?
2007 iMac, the first of the Alu generation in 20". Wish I had got the 24, now. I have a 500G drive (the 320 it came with died an ignominious death) and 4G of RAM (max it can take). I'd love to upgrade but I think that I will have to make do for the forseeable future. Unless my tax return is HUGE.

[edit] Install of SL took 20 minutes, the data migration will take nearly 2 hours. Sighh.

Well, data migration finished... SL ready to go, all I needed to do was sign in... but will it let me? NOPE! WTF?? It won't accept my pass. I tried several until it showed me the password hint and nope, it still wont accept that my password is correct. Why? No idea, unless Lion and SL store things differently (and they do, apparently, so Lion has obfuscated my pass in a way that SL can't understand) so I am forced to start over.

This time I have decided to go for a clean install of Lion and see how it pans out. Talk about frustrations. OSX never used to be this problematical.

Sue,

Regardless of which version of OS X you are running, a couple of things about iPhoto:

1. How many photos are in your iPhoto? It may help to create multiple Libraries.

2. This can really speed up iPhoto:
a) Make sure you have a backup
b) hold down the Command and Option keys, and launch iPhoto.
c) a dialogue box for tidying up iPhoto will appear.
d) select all the options and set it running
e) close and re-launch iPhoto
