Winogrand doing his thing

I just wish that the narrator would be quiet.;) That's only because I can't understand him and would like to hear more direct from Garry Winogrand.

Seriously, it's great to see the master Winogrand doing his thing - he's so happy and completely unaffected. I love the fact that he doesn't know if he's getting good pictures - no worries about "chimping" in those days. Something many should remember. Seeing these pictures - that under water one of the woman and pig swimming is wonderful!

When Garry Winogrand says that when he's photographing he is "out of himself" - this is in my interpretation the reward of being in the moment and at one with what you're doing.

Thanks so much for this Amin, it's good to be reminded of what's important. It also reminds me of the Philosophy of Photography forum wherein reside some very good threads.

I came across this after thinking about things that make cameras better suited for street photography. On my short list were integrated eye level viewfinder, articulated display, touch AF/shutter release, quiet shutter, small size, and discreet looks. This video was a nice inspiration for me to stop making lists, go out and take photos :).

I either need to learn to speak German or find a version without the VO ... I have to say, I often get asked "Got any good pictures ?" when I'm loitering about with a camera, I'm left bewildered to know what to reply ...

Yes. I have worked very hard at this. I have rid myself of all gear except one MFT camera and key lenses, and will not (I mean it!) buy another body until at least January 2012. I love the gear though - a well camera made for photographers is a great thing, great lenses are just beautiful and the odd pixel-peep is the stuff of life...

But I really have pushed things into proper perspective - more balanced. I am shooting more of a greater variety, editing more thoroughly and printing more and taking on projects. Photography is so much fun, so satisfying. As DuChemin says, gear is Good, Vision is Better...

Thanks for the videos. So good.

Amin, i have the same experience about thinking about gear and how it makes me look on the street. But after following peoples advice (Don here, and Ashwin Rao and others over getdpi) and going out and trying different approaches, I find it's definately how you conduct yourself like Winogrand here.

If i have my K5 with me, people do seem nervous/curious when I take shots, so i go about calmly and if they look at me I smile and act calmly (as opposed to hiding my camera quickly or turning away, which looks suspicious lol). I also find street performers don't really care too much about them having there photo's taken and often strike up a pose like:

also helps to give them some change lol

I also find using a compact camera or my canonet rangefinder that people don't really notice at all, but maybe this is all in my head? lol

At times I think i blend in to Manchester city more because I'm Chinese and look like a tourist LOL ;)

(hope i didn't run off topic)
