@Luke will shake his head (or laugh his head off) at this. But I simply had to try one before writing off the system.

So far, I like the camera in the hand, and I like the results (a lot, in fact - specifically, I get the thing about Fuji JPEGs now; I have no serious reservations of using the images SOOC). But it certainly doesn't supplant the technologically superior :mu43: cameras, specifically the GX9 with its faster operation, I.B.I.S. and smaller lenses.

However, I'll probably keep it (it's near mint, and I got it at the price of the lens alone) because it has effectively silenced my desire to get a Leica CL with the 18-56mm in order to have a Leica-like zoom camera, something the GX9 is just doesn't represent for me, in spite of the form factor (and I've tried hard to see and use it that way, believe me). In short, the Fuji makes a congenial partner for the M cameras because it can do duty as a second, versatile (i.e. zoom) body alongside them without breaking the flow (too much).

I've so far used the G1X III for that task most of the time. It's a bit like comparing apples and oranges, but since the X-E3 does fit into my ONA Bowery together with an M, it's a viable comparison nonetheless. The Fuji delivers better images than the Canon (though the difference isn't as big as some may think) which in turn is obviously the better pocket camera (heck, so's the M8 with the Voigtländer Nokton Classic!). But the 18-55mm is also a very compelling lens in use - way nicer than the Canon's power zoom. So, for more dedicated photography, I do prefer the larger setup already. The G1X III is unbeatable for its size and sturdiness (weather protection!) - it's the camera I take if I'm hesitant about taking a camera at all ... but it'll see less use as a sidekick.

Just one thing: If someone knows a way to inverse the direction of the aperture ring, I'd be grateful.

I have found the XE3 to be a very satisfying camera in many ways. It’s also ridiculously light.

Picked up a Nikon 85mm f1.8 AF (without the 'D') for cheap. I was surprised that it seemed not much bigger than my 50mm f1.8 AF-D but was a lot weightier.

Quick shot with the D700 wide open - sharp on the nose and super-buttery smooth everywhere else (I should have focused on the eye in retrospect). Will have to try with the focal-reducer on m43 next.

Oops, I did it again... Bought another Zeiss Loxia, the 2.4/85 this time, for my Sony FF cameras. Yesterday I saw one offered at a local camera store for € 899, which to me seemed like a fair price. It was shown without the lens hood, so I walked on but decided to go back and ask if it came with a lens hood. It did, and box and paperwork and the little declick tool for the aperture ring. The box had some small scuffs, but apart from that the total package was like new. I took some test shots and wasn't convinced about corner sharpness, so I went home and checked on my monitor. A combination of coma and overexposure led to a less favourable impression, but after correcting for overexposure in Lightroom it looked alright. So I went back today and bought it. Man, this is one sharp lens!

I've been looking for a compact and foldable viewfinder/loupe for my Nikon 1 J5 and I think I found one!

Foldable Viewfinder

I think this viewfinder is perfect for mirrorless cameras like the Nikon J5, Panasonic GM1, Fuji X-M1 and other EVF-less bodies! In addition, it works as a sun shade when you just want to use the rear LCD. I find the optics to be decent enough for viewing. It comes with 4 magnetic strips for different LCD-size ratios and it comes with a small clip you can attach to the camera strap loops, just in case it gets knocked off. For extended use, I just apply a few strips of gaffers tape to the sides to keep it in place. When not in use, you just fold it up!

^ cool looking setup Jonathan.

Also, I follow you on Flickr. Really like your work with any of your cameras you take out with you (y)

Thanks! I'm fairly particular with what I use. It doesn't necessarily need to be the most expensive or most fanciest camera/lens, but I am particular about price, performance and practicality. ;)

Just saw Adorama was running a special on this kit for $229. Cheaper than you can find them used. Since I am switching my lights to AD/Evolv 200's, I couldn't pass on it.

I was a little bummed that I missed that.

But I ordered an Xplor600 for $349. :D

I think you had just sold yours and went to 200s.
I'll have a 600, 200 and V850(speed light).
Hopefully I find my usage warrants the size difference.

It's a xmas present from my family so I'll have to wrap it up until 12/25.
The suspense will be killing me I'm sure. ( :
