Headed to Disneyland very soon and plan to leave the picture taking to the Disneyland photographers, my and my wife's cell phones, and Nikon Coolpix A. I'd like to stash the Nikon, cell phone, and other small sundries into a small-ish fanny pack rather than taking a bulkier backpack with wasted space. Anyone have any bum bag recommendations for this purpose? There are a few I have in mind, but many are just sort of dump pockets that lead me to feeling averse to having my camera fumbling about next to keys, opened half-eaten granola bar packages, and other items it might be sharing the space with. The Mountainsmith Vibe has some internal organization, but it'll cost me about $30 US. TIA!

Moment sling? Twice the price of the one you referenced, but is weatherproof and collapses/expands based on how much you pack.

I have a Peak Design Everyday Sling that's about the same size. In fact, I might just use that since it’s pretty slim and will allow me to separate my camera from everything else. I think I wanted something even just a little smaller, but it’s a great bag and still slim. Thanks for the comment! Totally made me rethink it and saves me some money for a couple extra Disney churros!

Sorry, but I'm English... When I saw the title of this thread I thought I was going to have to deal with an outbreak of kinky porn... 😳

I wanted to be sure I grabbed attention. The threat of kinky porn can sometimes help get traction in that regard.

Interestingly, us Yankees don't typically refer to our backsides as fannies, yet that is exactly what the fanny in fanny pack refers to and it's a pretty well established name for that product over here. Bum bag is another popular term. We hear lumbar bag, too, but that doesn't garner excitement.

I hereby introduce the name crack satchel to be added to the canon.

Haha, glad I can help. But, to further the discussion, what size PD Sling do you have? I have the 5L and I can fit in my Sony A7ii with lens and a second lens and small flash. Yes, it’s compact, but still seems pretty large for your original carry request. Unless you want to stick in more stuff. PD did come out with a new smaller 3L bag that may be the ticket if you have a larger one. If so, sorry for cutting out some of those potential churros!

Waist pack and hip pack are two of the less awkward names, and work whether you carry it at the front or rear.

Millican has two expensive but nice waist packs. On the cheap, there are some running waist packs that cinch down nicely whwn you dont neer volume. Some of them have external bottle holders which is nice for keeping liquids and electronics separate.

Myself, i have a very expensive Patagonia waist pack that can be fully submerged without getting a drop of water in. Great for carrying cameras into jungles, overkill for Disneyland. Also close to zero internal organizing.

I've used this setup on some hikes.

Pretty secure. I can add my cell phone and a battery or two.

I confess I flew out of Johannesburg once, wearing a - ahem - "bottom satchel", containing passport, etc. It was glimpsed in departures by an over-zealous security chap, who asked me in all seriousness if I was carrying a gun... He had his hand on his own holstered weapon as he asked the question. I'm afraid, coming from a culture where personal firearms are anathema to most civilised people, I reacted somewhat negatively to the suggestion. I narrowly avoided a strip-search and was escorted to the very door of my flight by Mr. Zealous and his two humourless friends.

I have not worn such an article since...

Not a group you want to joke around with while they are on the job.

I also have the 5L. It’s bigger than my original request, but using something with organization, and capacity for my Nikon and other sundries, while still allowing for a slim profile is feeling like a good choice. The 5L is pretty light and fits pretty snug to my back, plus I can fanny-packify it, if necessary. OK, I think I’ve also decided to bring my Sony RX1 with me, too, so the larger size will help.
