Daily Challenge The April 2020 Challenge - day 8

Went out with the wrong camera this morning but I like what I get get from the Canon M more anyway. It just has a tendency to lock up occasionally.

Beautiful sunny day here as well. I decided to take advantage of a feature in my D7100 and loaded some custom Picture Controls and selected one that claims to be a simulation of Velvia. Cranked the ISO all the way down to 100 and went snooping. Like my last drive I got a couple of good ones but I, personally, liked this one the best.

Day 8: Old friends

“It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

For a number of years, starting from around the mid 1980's and going through most of the 1990's, my pocketable carry-everywhere and especially take-with-me-on-long-trips camera was the diminutive Rollei 35. I found its quirks - a pull-out lens which only retracts after advancing the film - and a tiny DOF (depth of field) scale on even tinier lens which made setting focus an adventure - endearing, and somehow it always had a way of taking good and occasionally great photographs, almost by itself.

I haven't used it for quite a few years but this morning I unzipped its tiny case and, holding it in my hands again, made me itch to shoot another roll of film through it .... for fun.

When my two sons, long since grown into large and generally rational human beings, were very young, we spent a lot of time together watching early Wallace & Gromit claymation-animation films. My all time favorite was (and still is) 'The Wrong Trousers'. Some years ago I was given my very own small stuffed Wallace doll, and as an extra special bonus, his dastardly antagonist, the evil Penguin (who disguises himself as a chicken by wearing a tiny rubber chicken hat atop his penguin head); they sit in a place of honor atop one of my bookcases .... not all that far away from my Rollei 35.

That's my photo for Day 8 - a portrait of some fine old friends.

Day 8. Today got started making masks for giving away. Very simple cloth masks. I also got the garden bed for the 3 Sisters mounds dug out; and continued cleaning and re-organizing tools, etc in the garden. So today's image will be of the masks I am making. On Sunday, there is a distribution of food amongst the needy population here; I thought some masks might also be welcome (yes, I have some food as well).

Imagine, just for a minute, being homeless during this pandemic. There's a group that goes to a park on the second Sunday of each month to distribute a hot meal and whatever clothes and sanitary items we can muster.

Still returned to my 'theme' but for the outtakes today (is this the beginning of the end O Muse?).....

If my memory serves me well, Tintin wore this outfit during his visit to l'Île Noire - his trip to the Black Island - and what a trip it was! In honor of this so-damn-cool photo, all a true TinTin fan can really do is raise a glass of the good stuff... Cheers!

Miquel, I bought one of those in the 1980s too. I used it all the time as a 'serious compact' traveler. Still have it. But it has been filed away for years. Fantastic lens and amazing design. And Aardman Studios is an all time favorite of mine! Nice photo.
