GAS GAS: Please Share your Latest Desires Big and Small

I didn't consider that - just assumed AF adapters aren't very good compared to native use, so you've definitely planted a seed there.
Both Canon and Nikon with their respective mirrorless offerings have an about perfect legacy lens adaptability. They had to nail it, otherwise they'd sink right at the drydocks...

The one piece of gear I am jonesing for is a Profoto A1. It has been superseded by the A1X, for which reason they seem to be liquidating the remaining stock. B&H has it at about half the price of the A1X with an extra two batteries to boot. It will play nicely with my B2 setup. The only thing that is keeping me from pulling the trigger is my irksome inner voice telling me this is not the time for non-essential purchases. I fear, though, that if I wait much longer, I may miss the opportunity.

I have successfully enjoyed my M now these last few days. Redid some internet research on M10's capabilities and it clearly seems that M10 is not going to offer enough improvements over my M240 to justify the considerable investment it needs.

The upcoming M11 might be it, if it contains an overhaul of the visoflex experience. But I fear and suspect it's not going to offer that. And even if it does, it's even more money. M240 is a wonderful place to be.

But this doesn't obviously remove desires towards SL, which is a shame. I don't even know why I "need" that camera 🤨

I have an expensive new lust: Epson just announced the P900 printer. 17", roll paper support, better inks, etc. Everything I need to start making prints of my landscapes to sell when the tourist trade comes back.

30 % smaller too so it would actually fit my desk.

Has anyone here bought the Olympus 12-200 and is holding out on us? I did a Google search of the site and found only two very brief mentions of it. Is it a dog and people are running away from it, or is the rather dear price keeping people away? I'd like to eventually get a decent mid-range telezoom, and don't see myself forking out for the PL 50-200, and the Panasonic 35-100 is a bit short for my uses. I'll have to wait a while, as I just bought a new drum sander for my workshop, but I'm still curious about the lens.

After holding it and reading the reviews available online, I opted - for the Panasonic FZ1000. I know it's counter-intuitive at first, but by all accounts, the lens on the FZ1000 is optically better than the 12-200mm, and even the FZ1000 II is cheaper than the 12-200mm alone (around here) and gives you a much smaller and lighter package. Not that I see many reasons to go for the FZ1000 II over the original in practice - but if you like two dials, more customisable buttons and a touchscreen, in short, a more "grown-up" handling paradigm, you may want to go there. But all in all, the FZ1000 is surprisingly pleasant to shoot, and you can't beat its price/performance ratio.

The problem I see is that the 12-200mm is quite week on the long end - why carry such a lens if it doesn't perform where it should? The FZ1000's lens is a really nice performer on the long end (it's a tad weaker on its wide end, but perfectly usable - though you *have* to apply lens corrections).

If you need weather sealing, there aren't many alternatives to the 12-200mm - but I still prefer the 14-150mm II: It's a lot smaller, very portable, decent at the long end and has weather sealing. And the Panasonic 14-140mm II is weather sealed as well - but it's shorter, and I may be biased, but I really appreciate Olympus's weather sealing chops.

Thanks for that informative post, Matt. That makes a lot of sense. I briefly owned an FZ2500, but couldn't get consistent performance from it, and returned it. By most accounts, the FZ1000 is the better camera. Several people on these boards have one and like it. I'll look around and see if I can spot a deal somewhere.

Yesterday I was doing some close-up photography and it came as sort of a shock when I realized that none of my native Sony E-mount glass offered something like a 1:2 reproduction ratio. So there we go. Looking out for a deal on a used Zeiss Batis 2/40 with close focus up to 1:2.

Yeah because you can't possibly spare any of the 61 megapixels for cropping purposes 🥳

Kind of interested in the PanaLeica 25 mm.

Not terribly expensive on the used markets but supposedly performs very well.

The reason behind the interest is of course the remote hope that something like this will break the camel's back and I can "downgrade" to M4/3 gear for good!

The output from GX80 and the two kit lenses is so good, perfect even. The body itself is not perfect ergonomically speaking but what is.

(How cool would it be if Panasonic made a Fuji X-Pro clone for m4/3? With an OVF/EVF hybrid? Very cool.)

Here's to hoping for a true GX8 successor soon...

I'm still looking at the 25mm II - it's said to be quite a bit better than even its well-received predecessor. That said, I'm very happy with my :mu43: kit after the arrival of the 12-45mm f/4 PRO - Olympus has already fully realised the potential of this very convincing lens by offering bundles for the E-M5 III and the 12-45mm (y)

I'm contemplating something entirely different, but will need a little more time researching this: I don't own a dedicated 135mm lens, but much of my medium telephoto shots happen around that focal length. The modern big guns are too heavy for my taste, though. But I've found a very interesting (if a bit expensive) Contax Zeiss 135mm f/2.8 Sonnar - I'd be very interested in any assessments people on this board might be able to offer, to be honest. There's also a Mutar II included - which means I'd gain a lot of options in the telephoto range ... (at least, for the time being, on the Contax S2 and the Sony A7 II).

The PL25 has been one of my favorites in the past. It makes a look that I really like. I had planned on getting one but found a Sigma 30 1.4 for $120 on CL. It's bigger and longer(which I actually like) and renders a nice looking image as well.

On the GX80 ergos, is it the grip or control/layout? I added a fotodiox grip/plate and it feels pretty good. I think I'm going to add a thumb grip if I can figure out which one. I use back button focus so it may block it. 50/50 on that.
