Daily Challenge Daily May 2

A large cigar box is being converted into a baritone ukulele. Made of otherwise high quality Spanish Cedar, the back was a heavy plywood that needed to be replaced, in this case with the piece of Western Red Cedar shown foreground left. The plywood back was heated a few inches at at time with the small heating iron shown, and the putty knife was carefully pushed into the glue joint to pry (prise?) away the softened glue. Compare the box to the much smaller Davis 1886 box being converted into a concert ukulele.

Tony it will be very interesting to eventually see the finished article!

This is the best I could get in a day filled with many fails, not just in photography. The sound insulation panels will make this place look fantastic once the construction is finished.

I showed this to my friend who couldn't believe it was the glass, not me that did the trick.

That must be a sexy setup, I love the photo, I wish I had the GXR with the A12 and such high quality lens. Even in B/W I can tell this is so much better than the Samyang 12mm f2.
Hi, I first got that lens in my early days with m4/3 and indeed used it on a Panasonic G1 in the SIJ of 2012. There was a degree of smearing at the edges so I did eventually get a Samyang 12mm f/2 but didn't notice a significant gain using it on my m4/3 cameras.

However having now got a secondhand Ricoh GXR and A12 module the fact that the sensor in the A12 module is built to match rangefinder glass means the results from the 12mm Voigtlander, and hopefully the 15mm and other wider angle lenses in the series will be a considerable improvement when compared to the results on m4/3. Also there's a gain in wide angle capabilities, this now becomes an 18mm lens rather than a 24mm lens as it was on m4/3. Now I just need to have things improve with respect to the "C" thing that's ruling our lives and be able to get out and about to tackle more landscape work.

And yes, it is a rather sexy set up on the Ricoh, all those lovely engraved figures on the lens barrel. Overall it takes me back to my much missed Leica M3.

That's interesting, so glad to see the lens performs great on a proper body, I used to shoot m4/3 but I never liked using adapted lenses on m4/3 bodies because they just don't perform well. I had the Samyang for fuji before and that one ended up being my most difficult lens to sell. There are some gears IMO that people love how unique they are but are often too hesitant to own, GXR being of them, others I've found interesting are the Pentax Q, Pentax K-01, and the Sigma.

I like the sound of cedar, it is bright but still warm with good projection. I miss my cedar concert. I traded that for a spruce top tenor that is one of my two daily players. I’m looking forward to seeing the progress on this one.
