A Kiev 4 AM with Helios-103 53mm f/1.8 lens in very good working condition (minus the self timer, but I'm okay with that - it's also the only part of the camera missing more than a few flakes of paint).

I don't know what it says about me...but the more I see these old film cameras, the more I wish newer cameras took more design cues from them now. I know there are some...and it is one of the reasons I love the Olympus PEN-F and the Fuji XPro and X100 lines. I realize I'm in the minority here.

Sexy, functional, no frills for a pleasant shooting experience.

I look at my shelf in the office and see all those film rangefinders and TLR cameras.....lovely devices and still in working condition today.

You're certainly not in a minority of one. I do love those "classic" cameras - btw., the Kiev handles much, much better than its somewhat ambivalent reputation suggests - and certainly enjoy shooting with their modern re-incarnations; I like the X-E3 as well as the GX9 and E-M5 III, all of which take major design clues from iconic cameras of the film area (though the GX9 is decidedly *not* vintage in its actual handling). That said, I'm really glad there are true digital rangefinders as well - I'm not ashamed to admit that shooting with them feels the purest, most authentic to me, and the way I create images with those cameras bears that out. I shoot differently, though of course my choice of favourite subject matter stays more or less the same. And the number of keepers is certainly higher than with any other type of camera.

My other foible re. film cameras are old folders ... TBC, but not in this thread.

So, a thing just happened... :coffee-79:

I found the GW-3 'Wide conversion' lens - which widens the GRII's fov from 28mm to 21mm - and its necessary companion piece of mounting hardware, the GH-3 (Ricoh likes to make things complicated) for a very reasonable price--

So I am now dipping my toes into the ever-widening pool of ultra-wide-angle Ricohtography--

I think I caught a bad case of corona-quarantine-shopping-online-fever. In the last few weeks I have accumulated a new Dell XPS 15 7590, Thunderbolt Dock, G-Technology 6TB Thunderbolt 3 external drive, Transcend DVD external drive, Mackie CR3 stereo speakers and a BenQ SW240 monitor.

My "old" computer isn't really old but it is a desktop and I kept wondering what I would do if I had to be hospitalized (I run several websites and a forum) and also not being able to travel away from home more than a day or 2. So, I had an excuse to get a laptop. All the other stuff means I don't have to try to keep up 2 computers; now I can sell my desktop whole or in parts. Or it will sit in my storage unit just like my last perfectly good desktop PC. :(

I feel you. My son’s wi-fi router came to end of service, died. He guessed right and acquired new from my security storage 🤓. I tend to store everything which is not broken. I fear that I remind my late father here. It was pain to clear out his collections…

Go small or go home. Or, when things don’t work out, start over with a rangefinder and prime you know does work very

A super-nice combo I also own myself; apart from the unreasonable wish to some day own an X-Pro, the X-E3 is all I can wish for: small, capable, with really nice results; the same goes for the 23mm - very compelling lens overall (in spite of the distinct glow wide open near the minimum focusing distance - but that can be considered a feature as well, compare the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 C ...).
