con algo hay que empezar ... one has to start with something

The two cigar box ukuleles I've worked on the most recently. The little concert scale in front is ready for the first finishing coats, and the large baritone scale is almost finished. I'm working on touching up a little "oops" that happened on the workbench, and the bridge just needs to be glued in place. Then it will be ready for the strings.

Beautiful so far, no oops to be seen, Tony. ;)

And so, with this photo of San Sebastián by window light, I put an end to 61 days of photos taken within the confines of my home. This was not strictly voluntary, as Puerto Rico has implemented some of the most drastic social distancing rules of this pandemic, at least in the US. Although rules have been relaxed somewhat since about two weeks ago, there is still a mandatory lockdown from 7pm to 5am every day, and we are definitely not yet back to business as usual. On the positive side, the measures seem to have been successful in flattening the curve, so to speak.

Taking photos in my home is certainly different from the type of photography I usually practice. Some highlights:
(1) I now know exactly how sunlight enters my home at every hour of the day, and the shadows that are created by my windows and blinds.
(2) I realized I own three (3) macro lenses, none of which had ever been used to take a macro photo (except for film scanning) before this lockdown. It was nice to be able to use them for their intended purpose.
(3) I got a fair amount of practice using my studio lights for portraiture. This is something I would like to do a lot more of.
(4) Before the lock down, I had decided I was going to divest of a significant amount of my gear, as I was mostly using my Z6 with the three native Z lenses I own. Now, I'm not so sure. During the lockdown, I got significant use out of some of my ZF.2 lenses (50mm and 100mm Makro Planars) and some of my old AIs lenses (50mm 1.2 and 105mm 2.5). When you are in the house, it's easy to just grab any lens from the cabinet. I do worry about my Leica gear, which has not been used in quite some time, and wonder if I will ever shoot film again.

It was really fun to see everyone's work. That is, by far, what I enjoy the most from these challenges. Fantastic work, everyone.

See you in the next one.

Cheers,

Antonio

Walked my longest photo walk yet. Nice weather and stuff. But the creative eye wasn't with me and I focused on enjoying the harsh sunlight instead of forcing compositions of my sights.

As a question of C&C, I don't find this crop that nice even though it conveys the good life he's (the subject is) obviously having at the moment. Will you find a nicer crop?

I like the composition and would not crop it. It is a good shot as is.

I quite agree with Antonio. It's just a matter of taste.
But if you want to get rid of the fingerprint on the lens (in the sky) and the cut-off flower pot my suggestion would be a crop of the left part and of the sky.

A grayish cloudy day, neither cold nor hot. Just sort of...in-between.
Which is how my mental and photographic states are today: neither one thing nor another.
And I was not really motivated, photographically speaking, by...anything.

But you know what they say?....necessity is the mother of invention. So 'if needs must'... I walked around in the garden. And ended up looking at the old doorknob on an even older door.
Here it is.
