"63 Up" is latest film in the "7 Up" documentary series by Michael Apted, probably better known as the director of "Gorky Park". He visited the same people every seven years and made a documentary series out of that; so this was the ninth time he did such a film - over 56 years. Talk about perseverance ...

Some time in the first decade of the 21st century, I laminated planks of Maple and Black Walnut to make a 5-piece guitar neck. The chunk of wood left over from that project was moved from place to place in my garage and my workshop for over 10 years. I had no idea what to do with it, but I knew I didn't want to throw it out. That "scrap" of wood became the neck for the baritone ukulele I finished the last day of July. Here's what is left. It's been sanded to remove all of the saw marks from cutting the ukulele neck. Once again, I have no idea how I will use it. Perhaps in another 10 years or so, something will come to mind.

That first sentence went from Sci Fi to DIY in the blink of an eye. 👽

A photograph of an old black-and-white print - taken in the late 1930's with, I believe, my father's old Leica IIIc - that shows my parents, newlyweds in Bolivia, an image from an earlier time which I can barely imagine. The photo sits on a beautiful (and heavy) old set of wooden bookshelves, which also date from the same period - and were built for the same newlyweds in Bolivia. My parents are no longer among us, but the bookshelves have stayed with me for many decades.
