Advice on a gift camera

I've been considering giving my sister an update to her current camera (Oly EM10) for Xmas. I'm considering the Fuji XT200:

She will probably be setting it to auto and shooting away in jpeg. My thinking is that she will enjoy the big bright flip-out screen for both shooting and sharing her photos. I've seen the current camera come out many times as people look at shots on the LCD. (I'm sure that is an unspoken reason for Fuji putting the bigger screen on the camera.) She probably won't want to mess with settings and will shoot on auto, but the camera has all sorts of neat ways to pick a film simulation with preview even after the fact. She also does order 3x5 prints on occasion, and Fuji jpegs are very nice. As I have mentioned before, she lives in my home town of Fall River, MA, and takes the majority of the pictures of my family. This body seems to be aimed at just her sort of user. The kit is currently $499 with the 15-45 lens, and I'll probably wait until we get closer to Black Friday to see what happens.

Any thoughts?

I assume her Olympus is accompanied by the kit zoom alone? No m4/3 lens collection as baggage?

Is her "family photography" more posed or candid style?

What I've seen of the X-T200 is quite convincing, and the price is right.

But ... What's wrong with the E-M10 for the purpose you describe (maybe except for the non-flip-screen)? I have very fond memories of that camera, and Olympus JPEGs are also very, very nice. If it still works, I don't see why the X-T200 should feel like a significant upgrade to the Olympus for the use case described ...

If she were into video, things would look a lot different. The X-T200 is the way better hybrid camera. And as we have seen on this board, the kit zoom is capable of some really nice images (@Leeland Williams shows us proof of that time and again). So, nothing *against* the Fuji - the question remains: Why? Has she actually complained about the camera she has?

I think the better gift might be one of the extremely nice portrait lenses :mu43: has to offer; I'm still a fan of the Olympus 45mm f/1.8 - it's great for general family photography as well as out-and-about shooting. Or the ultimate :mu43: price-worthy short tele, the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 C* ...

*OT: That's one of only two lenses I'm still considering (from time to time), even though my own gear focus has drifted off :mu43: for good (the other is a lens I definitely don't need, the 25mm f/1.4 II - way too expensive, but basically the ultimate do-it-all small-ish prime, including sealing).

I had the Olympus 45 18 and the Panasonic 20 17 cracking good lenses but my budget didn't allow me to have two systems so I jumped to Fuji I preferred the format never really liked four thirds but hey everyone's different to what they want 😊

Again, certainly nothing against the Fuji camera! I'm extremely happy with what the X-E3 puts out (though, to be fair, this sports the X-Trans sensor). I was just reacting to this specific approach - I'm not sure what the X-T200 actually does better than the E-M10 (a great little camera!) for someone who just shoots JPEGs and - that's what I read into it, so I'm sorry if I'm mistaken - hardly ever fiddles with anything. I just thing the E-M10 does such a lot right that it's not that easy to surpass it for (really) casual shooting. But maybe I went wrong in thinking about interchangeable lenses in this case, too ...

She has the EZ zoom. She doesn’t change the lenses so a new lens is a good gift.

Is your sister unhappy with the Oly or are you just looking for a way to scratch the gear itch?
I guess that could true but I won’t even see the camera since it goes right to her. I was just looking for a nice gift she might have some fun with and cameras are what I know. If it was just gas I could get a new lens. You know, I could cancel the XS10 order, combine the costs, and just get a Sony A7c. 🤪🤣😂😅

Nothing wrong with the Em10. This just seems like a better camera interface and lcd for her. I could look at an em10 iii which also has a “fun” touch interface. The LCD is much nicer for picture viewing and she’d like using the flippy screen. I originally looked at the XA7 for the same LCD with no EVF. The latter also comes in mint green.

2014 vs 2020 tech.
3.5 touchscreen LCD - worth half the upgrade the first time she sees it and the other half the first time she shows it to someone.
Fuji simulations could be a lot of fun.

Who doesn't love a new camera?

You're a good brother.
