Sony Sony a7c -- FF in an a6000 body

Quite plausible - but it wouldn't have cost them to adjust dimensions and reach into their stash of A6400 viewfinders, of all things - why develop a new, inferior unit if you have perfectly working ones ready? This isn't a smart move any way you look at it.

For me, it actually simplifies things: I'll try to go hands on with the camera, but set my expectations rather low - and I'll most probably pass on it even though it first appeared to be what I hoped for; I'm not paying that kind of money for a camera that doesn't satisfy me completely; if I wanted that, I'd stick with the Sony A7 II - a good camera with some increasingly obvious weak spots (to which it is entitled, being as old as it is). By the time Sony figure out another "improvement", I'll have moved on. Sigma can speed this up, btw. - if they get around to releasing Z mount versions of their mirrorless lenses, my E/FE stuff will either get converted or sold. Still, the A7C seems special enough to make me reconsider - but a mediocre or even sub-par EVF is a show-stopper for me, especially since not everything about the camera is convincing anyway (I'm used to a different kind of I.B.I.S. by now in that class - and a full set o controls) ...

I admit that the EVF baffles me. The pen F has the same rez EVF and a similar magnification. I don’t know the eye relief on that, however.

The Pen F should be a very interesting benchmark - it has 0.62x 0.54x magnification and a 20mm eyepoint, so 5% *smaller* than the A7C, probably quite a comparable experience.

It'd be interesting to know how people assess that EVF (I honestly don't remember any comments about it specifically ...).

Below reviewer seems to like it... He says it takes one day to get used to the evf, but that is just for af, eg all you have to do is put the person in the frame and the eye af will do the rest...

That reviewer needs to take a breath. He sounds like he was puffing on a pack of Marlboro Reds before filming this video! Plus where's his mask, doesn't he know there's a pandemic! :roflmao:

I had the Pen-F, the EVF was okay and certainly useable. I was able to shoot portraits with that viewfinder without hindering usability.

I'm somewhat seeing a repeat of the Olympus E-M5II and Pen-F comparisons with the Sony A7III vs A7C. While the slightly smaller form factor is nice especially for street photography, I've had no issue shooting street with the A7II, A7III and A9. In practice, the flip out LCD is more cumbersome for street versus the tilt LCD found on the other Sony bodies. I would of preferred an LCD that either flipped over or under for selfies and video.

I agree with the flip LCD but I read that 15% of tiktok users will be new voters, so I guess there is a reason for these lcd's which might replace the tilt option for us.... I don't know what happened to Fuji option with tilt/flip LCD's...

The more I look at the A7C, the more it's growing on me. I know it's handicapped on multiple fronts to fit the smaller form factor, but I've seen some more pics of the camera and I could totally see using this as a B-cam mounted with my small Samyang primes!

Those small Samyang primes are about the size of the primes I used on my old film Pentaxes. I remember the FA 50 1.4 being a tidy little lens.

From the get go, it had my attention due to the smaller size. Just wish the pricing was less and more in line with the new competitors on the street, namely the Z5.

But, I do think that most will see the value it offers, considering the A7iii still sells extremely well with the same MSRP as launch.

Marketing is a crazy thing - I think if Sony went with a different name like A5 or A6, they would have received a much better response. It would likely have people looking at it more like “almost an A7iii in a smaller package”.

Using the “A7” in the name has people making them direct competitors, instead of a different line of cameras, and people say “but you can get an A7iii for only $200 more”.

I think they went with A7c because they wanted to charge an A7 price.

I'm super happy with my Samyang 18/45 combo. Not so much with the 35mm f/1.4, but their 85mm 1.4 is a gem. I can see using the A7C with the Sam 35mm f/1.8 that's coming out!

Same thoughts here.
I just wished there was something in between the A7ii and A7iii.

Hopefully RF gets the same support soon.

Just to note, the Tamron 35 2.8 is supposed to be an amazing lens and goes for $399. Tamron had made some really nice stuff lately for the FE mount. It would go well with the A7C.

Reading more reviews and real world owner thoughts and it appears most really like the A7c. Main complaint, as expected, is the EVF vs the larger cameras, but it’s a trade off that had to be made.

For someone like me, coming from an A7ii, it should be a huge upgrade overall. I’d pick it over the A7iii for the compact size.

Haven’t you bought it yet?😂
