Canon Canon Powershot S100 Announced

I bought a S90 and a GRD III the same year, and ended up using the GRD III much more due to the feel of the camera and the surprisingly distinctive output. The S90/95 are just too slippery to feel good in the hand. The GRD III's 'pear skin' finish and rubber grip make it a joy to hold and shoot. The S90's dial is slippery, too.

Nevertheless, the S90's video is far, far better than the GRD III's, and the zoom makes it more versatile. When the Panasonic LX3 came out with a 24mm lens, the raws revealed a lot of distortion at the wide end which was being corrected in-camera. The S90 had a bit of this as well, although not as pronounced. I wonder how much distortion the S100 will have now that it goes to 24mm as well.

This upgrade appeals to me a bit more than the Fuji X10 due to the much smaller size. I just hope that the handling of the camera is much better than the S90. Not sure how much that little grip will affect things, but we shall see.

I love my little S95 but doubt that I would upgrade to the S100; I don't have a problem with the grip and considering my disfigured arthritic fingers that's surprising.
I carry the S95 with me most of the time either in my pocket or handbag...
I did think about selling it when I bought the XZ-1 but prefer it to the Oly which I have now decided to sell.
I don't need three cameras so like theKeddi one has to go and not my NEX 5.

For the S90, the aftermarket grip by Richard Franiec was a game-changer with respect to handling. The loose dial, however, was not as easy to fix. I finally bought a raised ring that surrounds the dial, and that helped quite a bit. The S90 fits very nicely in a neoprene belt pack marketed by Olympus; no more obtrusive than a smart phone belt clip.

I like the S100 a lot and am waiting for sample images (RAW) to turn up! With the G series facing stiff competition from the mirrorless segment in terms of both (physical) size and price, I wouldn't be surprised if the S100 becomes the Canon flagship compact for now, this (physical) size has very little competition.
