Help When I post a vertically-oriented photo, it turns horizontal.

This is probably painfully obvious , but I'm not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to computers! When I drag a vertically oriented photo from my files onto this site, it always flops over to horizontal. How do I prevent this?

I think it's a forum software bug? It definitely happens to me too when I post camera JPEGs, I have to bring them into an editing program for some minor tweak and save again to get vertical files to stay that way on the forum.

Thanks Andrew; appreciate the information. I save most of my photos RAW + JPEG and often just post the latter, but will take your advice.

It seems to depend on the operating system. I never get this problem if I post using my Android phone, or my MacBook. But it happens about 50% of the time when I post on my iPad. Less often than it used to, but still annoying.

It happens more when you post with an iOS device, especially if you took the shot with that device.

It happens on my Pixel phone with JPEGs straight off the memory card or wifi transferred.

Where as for me it's always from my Android phone. It sometimes takes repeated tries to get a phone picture to upload in the orientation I want. I just presumed it was something with my semi-old Samsung S7.

It never happens during my Nikon/Capture One workflow.

@Kevin, new finding of this anomalous behaviour. Photo taken with iPhone, tried to scale down when uploading to forum with iPhones Photos tool and the picture went, not upside down but sitting on the long edge.
When uploading the huge normal resolution, picture shows correctly. The message on the forum I'm referring to:
