Today is the official birthday of the ... LEGO brick!

Note that the U.S. patent arrived seven months later (which I consider quite a clever feat, actually) - but the original date is mentioned; also, obviously, the 60th anniversary was three years ago. But it's still a birthday ...

Ooh er, could it be the first very early signs of autumn? Or are these leaves that were burnt in the midday sun last weekend?

I'm still working my way through "Accidentally Wes Anderson" which turns out to be part Tour Guide, part photographic gallery & museum, part thoughtful texts on a whole cornucopia of both inter-related and random subjects - and part eclectic homage to the style and vision of Wes Anderson. It's the kind of book you can either work your way through, methodically - or randomly open to any page and discover strange (and occasionally weird) treasures - which in turn lead to other discoveries and ---

That's what happened to me when I opened the book randomly to a full 2-page spread of one of the cooler retro automobiles ever - the Nissan Figaro. A car which looks like it was created by a Miyazaki Animator working with a Nerdy Mad Scientist - a car that just makes you want to slide into the driver's seat, put your hands on the wheel... and drive on down the road.

I wouldn't have discovered this book without Briar's cool earlier posts about it - and it's hard also to forget her inventive use of Tintin figurines. I don't own any Tintin action figures myself but, years ago, in a Boutique Tintin, I was lucky enough to find a different piece of Tintin gear---

And the one just seemed to go with the other. All of a sudden I could imagine myself driving that Figaro down a country lane, and pulling the brim of my cap over my eyes to block out the sun---

I'm adding a colour version of this to today's Outtakes thread.

I love the look of the Nissan Figaro. There are a few owners locally so often see them out in the wild here in Scotland but none with the driver sporting such a cool cap!

There is a very good Instagram account @accidentallywesanderson too. Worth a browse!

I’m one of those few who still order CDs, because I like to own the music I love and not just stream it.

Whenever possible I order my CDs at a local shop. In these strange times the physical shop is closed, but with each online order, they send a personal postcard. Thanks to Thessy and Marlies for all the flowers!

PS: can’t wait for the new Steven Wilson, who features twice on the cards.

There is also a website - accidentallywesanderson.com - and the book itself is a remarkable collaborative effort - from not one but dozens, scores and, literally, hundreds of photographers worldwide, who collaborated in the project by submitting their photos to the author-organizer, many of which have since been organized and catalogued - and fill this remarkable book.

I’ve just realised you’re talking about Wes Craven, not Wes Anderson...☺️

Oops! My bad, Martin! a mental slip (one Wes is not the same as another, though both are renowned directors) - but I've corrected my mental typo - thanks for bringing it to the attention of the few still-functioning neurons up there in the cerebral cavity 😜

I have also been mixing things up within the pages of the wonderful Accidentally Wes Anderson book today and landed on this Turkish cat from Instanbul. The instax print he's now perched on is of the entrance to Anata no Warehouse, Kawasaki from 2019 (originally shot with the GRIII). I figured if he got curious or hungry, he could pop in.
