Panasonic 20mm for M4/3 is great.

Fuji 27mm likewise.

If Leica M had the framelines for 40mm I'd have the CV 40 f/1.2 absolutely.

If (and this is a big if) I really click with Nikon Df with the new screen, then I will definitely get the Cosina Voigtländer 40mm f/2 Ultron SL. That lens appears to be rendering just fantastically and it's a pancake-ish. Perfect pairing with Df.
 
For me a 40mm is the ideal standard lens. I use 35mm a lot, but it is a wide-angle for me: I often struggle with the foreground and the (to me) slightly exaggerated perspective. The 40mm's angle of view corresponds with how I look at a scene, while a 50mm often feels too tight. I use a 50mm when I want a slightly distanced look, while the 40mm is more engaging. Very personal of course and the 35, 40 and 50mm lenses are all used, though often not in the same shoot, depends on my mood really.

I don't even use the other lenses. It's 90% 50mm for me, and maybe 10% the 16mm fisheye.

I don't get me.

That would be my issue - no framelines for the 40mm. The weird thing is - I reckon I'd be fine guesstimating a 16mm or a 21mm lens on the Leica, without using an external viewfinder for the framelines. But the 40mm is too close to the 50mm, I'd probably expect to see a 50mm photo but would be a little thrown off when it comes out as a 40mm photo.
 
Do people remember those Sigma DP compacts with the foveon sensors? They kinda disappeared into the background after they evolved into the weirdest looking contraptions. I had a bit of GAS for them when they were a thing. I still kinda do have a thing for them.
 
I still have dp1/2, boxed for sale before we moved and still have it... Sigma FP brought back the soap box camera style similar to DP's with bayer FF sensor + the interchangeable lenses but more like a cine camera eg no mech shutter... New one will have phase detection, first for the L-Mount alliance with Leica and Panasonic.... Lots of people wish that Sigma kept the foveon apsc sensor as FP edition also...

Cameras are slow to run, fixed lcd, contrast af that doesn't work in low light and only usable ISO 100/200, maybe 400. Love the colors, but you need to edit in SPP and that program is a pain to use. Also dynamic range was good compared to original Canon sensors which surpassed by the Sony sensors. I printed A2 size prints and they looked great. I made a pano and sent to work competition with original resolution at 4.6MP due to MB limits and won since the details/colors were so good for that time when 12-16MP was the norm for pro photography... Now I don't know...

Merrill versions added extra MP and some artifacts too from what I saw from some DP2M shots... To fix that Sigma added some bayer algorithm with quattro versions...

What is your opinion on them after all this time? I came close to buying one of them a few years ago.
 
Do you mean the 50mm is your go-to lens at one end, while at the other end you're more likely to be using the 28mm? Therefore the 35mm is your neither here nor there lens?
Yep. I do currently have a couple of lovely 35mm lenses but 28/50 is more specific for me with 40mm also having a more specific purpose which is not immediately apparent till you use one.

Looks like the DP1 is producing slightly richer colours. But the LX3 is no slouch either. I still remember when the LX3 was the pioneering serious compact of its time.

When you said you needed to edit the DP1 file in SPP - is it not possible to upload the raw file into LR and do everything there?

On a side note - 12-16MP is fine for pro photography, depending on the kind of pro photography you're doing. If you're dealing with the type of clients that Annie Leibovitz deals with, then you'll need mega 100 MP files, probably.

I still have trouble adjusting to the Hasselblad Xpan. It's obviously a longer camera than the Leica M. I kept bringing the Xpan up to my eye to take a shot and ask myself "why is it so dark", and then I'd realise I had to shift the camera slightly to the right to align my eye to the viewfinder to account for the longer Xpan body.
 
I never tried in LR. You can most probably find a raw file online and try it. I saw in dpreview posts that a few were using SPP and then LR/photoshop to finish.... Yes, feveon colors are rich, maybe similar to CCD...

Yes, we were printing 16MP photos big on our project. Even years later I know pro photographers were using 8MP Canon 20D on our project as it met the specifications... Now everything can be done in cell phones / drones and updated real time in the 3D/4D model with apps though we still have monthly photo requirements...

I thought a bit about it, size vice and such, and after a bit of pondering landed on the A3+ as the logical choice, being a hobbyist and primarily printing for the house, perhaps something outbound once in a blue moon.

I will on the other hand not deny the song of the A2s, but for not having printed anything in earnest, ever, the A3+ Pro200 sprung forth as a proper entry level choice, probably on higher running costs, ink wise, but that is bearable. I can get quite a lot of ink for it, between the Pro 200 price point, and the Pro 300 price, not to mention the Pro 1000s.

There is always the possibility to ship work out, if I, some day fancies a larger print of something.

Pro 200, with 20 sheets of glossy A3+, plus Datacolor SpyderX pro just ordered. Nothing in the mailbox, yet. Let the foot tapping and watch checking commence...
I used a Pro 100S for a few years. The print quality is superb, but make sure you keep using it regularly or the cartridges and print head tend to dry out, and it’s a pain to rehydrate them (assuming the 200 is similar to the 100 in that regard).
