Ascending Subway Stairs, 1970 - Harold Feinstein

This photo, taken with the Widelux, is amazing.

The descending lines from right to left.

The descending light from right to left.

The brightness and the strong shadows.

The faceless silhouettes of figures on the stairs leading to the visible profile of the man on the left looking directly into the lens of the camera. None of this was planned or artificially setup by the photographer.

The almost too perfect spacing between each figure on the stairs

That’s the kind of photography that inspires me in so many ways, including the fact that it’s so important to take pictures of what’s around you right now, it may seem boring but it certainly won’t in 50 years time.

It inspires me and also depresses me a little because it's such a luck of the draw, once in a lifetime, right place at the right time shot. And it's so perfect and can never be replicated.
