I realize the 18mm f/2 is probably the weakest optically of its generation of Fuji primes. But it's still not bad and I really have no problem with it. But if a Gen II version has WR, you can sign me up.

You are correct, it is by no means a bad lens, but it has some weaknesses compared to the other f/2 primes.
Most who have used the lens and are not pixel peepers will characterized it as having character. I am one of those.

The 18mm 1.4 pre order is up. As usual, Jonas Rask's write up shows how amazing this lens is. According to him, the new 18mm is optically better than even the 16mm 1.4. And on par or better than the 90mm f2.
