What books are you reading for pleasure these days?

Almost done with this one. It's fantastic, as long as you don't mind some deepish dives into the engineering. Sad timing with Mike Collins' recent passing. But an all-around fascinating story, very engrossing.

Just finished Utopia Avenue by David Mitchell. Good, but not his best. It is about a fictional 60’s rock band story that has elements connecting back to some of his characters in his other books. I liked it but not as much as some of his other novels.

I started Umberto Ecco's Focault's Pendulum the other day. Enjoying it so far, but I was sure I would. The Name of the Rose is one of my favorite books, and I've really enjoyed reading Ecco's essays as well. His writing and thinking style really resonates with me.
I really liked Foucault's Pendulum. I once visited the Conservatoire in Paris where a lot of the story is set and the Camera Obscura exists! I was disproportionately thrilled.

Moving right along with the Shannara epic, with Isle Witch, first book in the "The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara" trilogy, set 130 years later in the fictional Shannara timeline.
Since you share my enthusiasm for fantasy, have you ready any China Mieville? His The Scar is a true classic. Most of his work shares a universe that is a triumph of the imagination.

@phigmov This is quite interesting, thanks. I've read Beevor's "Stalingrad" but this seems even more intriguing.
Its not bad. I think I prefer Beevors military history but this book has its moments. I think he struggles a bit with some of the Chekov family dynamics but once he's into the large sweep of history he is on firmer ground. Beevors book on the fall of Berlin is great reading. So are his D-Day and Arnhem (should be compulsory reading for any Project Manager - you can tell its going to be a train-wreck of a mission well before the parachutes open) books.

I just finished Morgawr, Book Three of Terry Brooks's "The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara" series. Next up is Jarka Ruus, Book One of the "High Druid of Shannara" series. Gotta hand it to Brooks, he comes up with some imaginative names. This is also book 20 of 32 in the Shannara epic for me. Only 12 more to go, with a goal of finishing by the end of October. I might make it.

I just finished reading Don McCullins book, it's a really good read if you are into war photography, although it's not all about that. I am now reading Francis Rossis book ( I talk too much) from Status Quo. It is early days but looks like it will be very good.
