"Not the really big joys are the ones that count the most. It depends rather on making much out of the little ones."
Found on the tiny memorial place in the park of the psychiatric clinic where a caretaker was shot during the Winnenden amoc. He was talking to a collegue ... in the wrong place at the wrong time.

A little more than a week ago, a local bicyclist was killed on a rural road by a hit-and-run driver. An impromptu memorial - including a white bicycle (painted entirely white), and flowers and messages, have been left alongside the road, in the spot where it happened. This message, left by a mourning friend, was attached to the nearby power pole.

I know many of us ride bicycles. I also know that, most of the time, I sometimes have a foolish belief that I am semi-invincible, when I'm riding. But (of course) I'm not. None of us is. Please take extra special care if and when you venture out onto the roadways. You never know...

I'm tempted to say that it must be the Q2 which is responsible for this totally cool, subtle, complex and surprising (it grows on one, the more one looks at it) image. And the camera deserves props for the beautiful rendering and the tonal range. But it's really the eye of the photographer...
Great photograph, Don. Really.

Miguel, thanks so much. I really appreciate your comments. I have tried to photograph that temperature gauge several times in the past. All the results were disappointing, Finally yesterday, I saw that there was a snail shell, and that became the focus point.

I got a weird idea for the neglected "Knives and Books" thread, and got even weirder when I decided to shoot it with the OneStep 2 and monochrome I-Type film. But when I scanned it just now, I thought, why not? It's broken enough to be probably completely opaque. But sometimes gullible people see deep meaning in that...
