autumn solitude #1
When my daughter was little, we used to call these tree droppings “pig noses”.

I just loved the silent charm and poetry both of the lonely chair and the pond with the autumn leaves floating.I love this, Walter.
For me it is a special and rather magical combination of images. Really nicely done.
What a beautiful contrast between cold and warm tones and how perfectly both light sources are captured.
Great, great light in this shot, Matt.
I don't know if shooting it at ISO 4000 - with the accompanying level of noise - may contribute to the diffused, almost organic sense of nighttime illumination. But whatever the reason or reasons, your 'capture' of this nocturnal shot is very, very cool.
Thank you both - you're too kind. It was kind of a last ditch effort after another day without much chance for photography, but I found the little stroll around the block surprisingly rewarding. Anyhow, I wish I had been able to step back another half meter or so - but that would have been too risky, I was in the murk as it was ...What a beautiful contrast between cold and warm tones and how perfectly both light sources are captured.
A stunning photo, Matt, that shows 'painting with light' at its best.
Astonishing how little noise there is at ISO 4000.
Well seen - and well said. Especially at this time, I'm really fed up with this kind of mindless consumerism. I don't know if you've already taken note of the situation around Europe ... we're in for a very, very sombre end of the year ... All hail Personal Freedom, the destroyer of prudence and accountability!Had to go to the local pharmacy to get my Covid booster shot - which are now available over here - and the ghouls, skeletons and zombies of Halloween have all disappeared, replaced by cheerful smiling and commercialized products of the forthcoming Christmas and Yuletide merchandise.

All this artificial good cheer sometimes makes me wish I lived on a desert island, or a mountaintop, far from the next marketing campaign.
I quite agree with you in both topics, Matt. This consumer hype and public booze of mulled wine and other alcoholics has nothing to do with the true spirit of Christmas.Well seen - and well said. I really hate to admit it, but the Swiss do have it over everyone else in terms of complacency. It's ... uncanny, in a way. It's as if this nation cannot learn from experience *at all*.I quite agree with you in both topics, Matt. This consumer hype and public booze of mulled wine and other alcoholics has nothing to do with the true spirit of Christmas.
As to Corona: thanks to 'personal freedom' we're heading towards an even more catastrophic end of year than the last one. People still don't see that your personal freedom ends where other people are damaged. Infecting someone because you don't want to get vaccinated is intentional bodily harm possibly resulting in death (a criminal offence).
Here is the reaction of the Swiss parliament to questions asked by journalists why measures are not tightened:
'We'll see when the problems are there'. Isn't that cynicism in its purest form?
We are sliding into catastrophe with our eyes wide open, here in Germany, too.
I'm glad to have been 'boosted' on Monday this week with Biontech/Pfizer.
