Anyone get an email like this one? I'm thinking M11...

I'm pretty sure it is the M11 that will be announced. I look at this as M10 24MPixel prices dropping.

I still use my M9 and M Monochrom - and will until they cannot be repaired anymore, At that time- I'll decide what to do. Until then- I pick up lenses.

I find the rumors about 60 megapixels hard to believe.

The another bit of rumors about Leica offering reduced raw sizes like Canon once did in their cameras, reads much like wishful thinking. Would be cool to have both 20 and 60 megapixel cameras all in one. :)

Same with me and my M 240. It'll be fun to watch what they do but in the meantime there are so many pretty LTM lenses that need to be added to my collection. I need a 135mm & there's always the need for more 50's ;)

Personally I'm in the 24MP is enough and I'd rather have better high iso performance, like the SL2-S. The only time I'd like more resolution (landscapes) I'm happy with pixel-shift.

yes 24 is enough for me. [Even the M8 was enough, with its very high quality output].
- I do not like files of sizes like 80 Mb like I am getting from another camera I added to my shelf lately. Look downstream: my computer has 8GB RAM, I would also need to replace that.
Iso, corner handling, acuity/surface rendering, AWB are more important to me. We'll see.

I'd also like it very much if the M11 came with a 24-megapixel chip.

But it is also a fact that with other variables kept the same, having more megapixels doesn't exactly hurt the image. This subject was thoroughly explored by reviewers when the 40-megapixel M10R came out.

If the camera indeed has an interesting raw downsizing mechanism, that'll be interesting to see if it works in practice. In my opinion if the feature can produce for example a 30 megapixel raw file that's visually indistinguishable from a 60-resized-down-to-30-using-good-algorithms-file, then it's a useful feature and I for one would use it.

It is easier to do a 4:1 reduction, each combine 8x8 Bayer pattern pixels into the 2x2- just add and store as 16-bit values/pixel. Interpolating 60MPixels to 20MPixels- would be a pain.

I haven't studied the subject too much but don't videographers complain when their cameras do pixel binning, introducing moiré and softness and whatnot?

Then again, mobile phones these days advertise up to 108 megapixel sensors, they obviously do plenty of downscaling of varying sorts I assume.

Got another Email. Leica is bringing this out on January 13th.

Most new cameras have "birthing problems" that get revised out. Firmware in digital cameras compounds the problems. Maybe Leica figures their luck will change on the 13th. Think they would have gone with 1/11/2022 for the M11. And 2/12/2025 for the M12.

Some leaked photos of the M11 offer very little new and exciting over the M10. This is to be expected of course, from Leica.

Eagerly waiting for the release and the usual early reviews from Jonathan Slack and others.

For me, maybe the most important thing about M11 over M10R is that M11 will get the "P" version in a few years whereas M10R has a dotless P only in black color (the M10R Black Paint version). Maybe the "D" version would also appeal to me, depending on what kind of sensor/processing they fitted inside the camera this time.

I get Emails from companies that are Designing new Lenses and asking for input....

I'm more excited about Skyllaney bringing out the Bertele Sonnar 50/2.....

Leica "Teasers" make this sound more like a Fashion Event than a new camera being introduced. I would prefer "we are introducing the latest Generation M-Mount camera, continuing development of a camera line going back 70 years" rather than "Witness something new".

Agreed. It definitely feels on the side of overhyping the whole release when they're known for conservative, incremental upgrades.
