I've been pleased with all the SOOC jpegs out of my Sony's. I think the latest firmware updates have helped in that regard.
It'll be interesting to see if Sony adds the bird eye focus to the R IV. I bet they will eventually. Some are hoping they do it for the R III too, but I'll bet they want to have some features on the IV to separate from the III. Especially with them cancelling the II.

Congrats on your latest gateway hardware! Probably should get a new case...and a filter...and some extra batteries...are you sure your current tripod is a worthy platform?...you know a new strap would be nice...I'll bet it would like it's own table to sit on with all it's dedicated accessories...probably be nice to get an accessory case...etc...etc...have you heard about that a7V ?

Well, butthole...let's explore that...

Probably should get a new case

Santa is handling that, a nice backpack for hikes and shooting.

...and a filter...

I don't use them

and some extra batteries

On order.

...are you sure your current tripod is a worthy platform?...

Yes, even with the 200-600

you know a new strap would be nice

I kind of like the one it came with for every day use. I use shoulder straps for events.

...I'll bet it would like it's own table to sit on with all it's dedicated accessories...

No, but thanks for considering it's feelings

probably be nice to get an accessory case...etc...etc...

No need.

have you heard about that a7V ?

WAIT...WHAT!? OMG!!!! I NEED A NEW CAMERA!

Hey honeeeey......?!?!?

Honestly, the day before Christmas Eve is probably the worst day in the world to receive a new toy. We went to my oldest daughter's house for Christmas Eve brunch, then my younger daughter and I went looked a to Condo she wants to buy. I have to make some food for tomorrow.

I have had time only to dink around with it some. I did find that Darktable updated to version 3.8.0, which now recognizes the camera but is still short on the profile, so I have to do some stuff manually. That's still better than having to learn Affinity from scratch.

One thing I hadn't purchased yet was a fast prime. I like the 35 instead of the 50. I had pretty much settled on a Sony /1.8 but decided to hold off due to the recent extensive outlay for the camera(s) and lenses.

Then KEH sent an email about their 20% off sale on overstocks. Uh-oh.

Since I have almost zero self control when it comes to GAS I naturally decided to check out the sale items, and there it was: A LN Samyang 35/1.4, refurbished/certified by Samyang with one year warranty from both KEH and Samyang. Since that lens hadn't been on my radar I went and looked for image samples and reviews. Pretty impressive and the same kind of results from the Samyang 7.5 and 85 on M-4/3.

With regular pricing I would've stuck with the Sony but $350 OTD was too good to pass up.

Please, KEH...take my money...

Yeah, we’re going to see just what companies want to do post-Christmas for sales. Some years there are some really hard to pass up deals. I also got that KEH email, and I was surprised at what they considered “overstock.” Normally when I hear ”overstock,” I think of retailers trying to clear out things like size 45-26 pants and size 18 shoes. No, they had current M43 gear in there to go with the DSLR and Film stuff.
